Scottish School Athletics
Congratulations to all of our pupils who competed in the Scottish Schools Athletic Championships. A special thanks to the fantastic work done by our valued partners Cumbernauld Athletic Club and of course the parents who attend and support our talented young athletes.
The championship was regarded as one of our very best performances in recent years and below is a summary of achievements of our athletes.
Pentathlon: Amy Kennedy S3 Bronze Medal, Hannah Wallace S4 5th Place – both will be invited to the National Team Development Camp in the Autumn
Hammer: Hana Gay S1 Silver Medal, is now one of the top Hammer Throwers for her age in Scotland
1500m Steeplechase: Calum Little S5 Bronze Medal, currently being considered for a discretionary place for the National Team for this years SIAB in Swansea
400m: Emily Miller Gold Medal, 200m Silver Medal. Emily is one of the top 400m Athletes in Scotland and is currently part of the UK Athletics Development Program in Loughborough
100m: Grace Young S1 Silver Medal + National Standard, after a strong indoor season has continued being one of the top sprinters in Scotland in her current age group this year
80m Hurdles: Euan Wallace S2 Bronze Medal
300m: Calum MacKenzie S3 – Silver Medal + National Standard – this was Calum’s first National competition and his performance puts him in the top 2 in Scotland, special thanks to Mr Neil in helping with Calum’s late event registration
On top of the above medal winning and performances, there were a number of other great performances by the following athletes:
Amy Kennedy S3: reached the finals of Shot Put (4th), Discus (4th) and 300m Hurdles
Hannah Wallace S4: reached the finals in the 80m Hurdles and Long Jump (4th)
Kaela Senior S1: reached the finals of the 70m Hurdles
Jack Breakell S1: 70m Hurdles
Adam Atkinson S2 – reached the final of the 100m (7th)
One final athlete that deserves a special mention is Alasdair McMonagle S5.
Due to serious debilitating health issues over recent years the thought of Alasdair running again this year really was unthinkable. Having worked closely with his coaches, parents and the guidance of his physio teams at the beginning of last November in an empty Emirates Arena he ran an 800m time trial for the 1st time since his illness, which was great to watch unfold. Under continued guidance from his parents and his medical team, Alasdair has managed to come back into Athletics and despite still having challenging days he is now in a place where he has recently ran a PB in his 800m. On Saturday he unfortunately was caught in the ribs accidentally by another Athlete that took him out of his heat, which was a disappointment to him. However taking into consideration what he as been through and his incredible resilience this I am sure is just a wee bump he will work through.
Again thank you to the wonderful work of Cumbernauld AAC and their dedicated and talented coaching team. Greenfaulds High School looks forward to the future success of our young athletes and a flourishing partnership with our local athletics club.
The school tries to highlight and celebrate the success of our pupils on social media platforms such as Instagram and Twitter. If there are any photos taken by proud parents or coaches please tag the school in and we will share these with the wider school community.
Thank You

S3 Immunisations
The School Immunisation Team will be attending the school on 26/03/19 for the Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio and the Meningitis ACWY immunisations.
All boys and girls can get the Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio and the Meningitis ACWY vaccine free from the NHS usually in their 3rd year in secondary school.
The Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio vaccine is carried on from childhood injections, and the Meningitis ACWY vaccine protects against the most common strains of the meningitis bacteria to affect teenagers and young adults.
It’s important to have the vaccine to be fully protected. Therefore, all S3 boys and girls should attend on the day of immunisation.
Please can students wear a short sleeve shirt/blouse on the day. If they do not have a short sleeve shirt/blouse, please can they bring in their PE top to put on when they are due to have their vaccination.
Can pupils also be asked to ensure they have eaten breakfast on the morning of the immunisation. Pupils will be advised of times prior to the day.
