ECO APP COMPETITION

Our Business Education and Computing Department recently ran a competition as part of Climate Emergency Action Week.  S1 and 2 pupils were asked to design an app that could help reduce carbon footprint.  Lots of fantastic entries were received which made for very tough judging!

Congratulations to Eilidh MacLeod in S2 who designed the winning entry!  Her app idea for “Repurposing Geeks” would provide users with tips and tutorials on how to repurpose old clothes instead of throwing them away.  Well done Eilidh!

ART DEPARTMENT

There are a number of S2 pupils working on a mosaic over the next couple of Wednesdays with a Scottish artist Alan Potter as a special project sponsored by Brodies LLP and gifted as a prize – Brodies Inspirational Art and Design Department Prize 2021, RSA Schools Art Competition. The pupils are creating a mosaic inspired by the Covid pandemic which will help to memorialise the efforts and sacrifices made by everyone in the community. See @GHSArtdept on Twitter for pictures of the mosaic in progress from the 1st December. The completed mosaic will be displayed on the outside of the school next term.

SCOTTISH INTERFAITH COMPETITION

One of the schools entries to the Scottish Interfaith Competition has won a prize! The competition was about making a religious festival more eco-friendly and three boys from 1TH – Alex Mandache, Ethan Dunn and Luke Cooper – made a PowerPoint on the Day of the Dead festival and had loads of ideas about how it could be made more eco-friendly including food, costumes and transport. Well done to the boys and to Mr Galloway and Mr Muir for supporting and guiding them!
