Maths in Primary 7

008003011009For the past two weeks primary 7 have been learning about different units of measure. Those include volume, capacity, area and perimetre. Today in class we were doing stations about the volume of a solid. In our station, we were building a solid object and working out its volume. To work out the volume of a solid, the formular is: volume of solid = length x height x width. When your talking about the volume of a solid, the unit of measure you use is centimetre cube or cubic centimetre. it would usally look like ‘cm3’ or ‘m3’ which stands for metres cube or cubic metres….
For example (if there wsas a cube that had a length of 4cm, a height of 2cm and a width of 3cm the solution to work it out is, you multiply 4x2x3=24cm3)

Anderson Shelters

In Primary 7 we made Anderson Shelters. We had so much fun and enjoyed sticking and painting and glueing different materials and card board boxes together or cutting bits out of it. Some people made just  an Anderson Shelter but others made a garden too. Some materials or fabrics that we used were camoflage vines we also used a bit of fake grass as well. Most people brought in shoe boxes cereal boxs or other old boxs, and we painted them. Some people painted them green and brown and others stuck tissue paper,  card or paper on it. We also used wool , wood and small boxs to make the inside more relistic or more real. Some people put a little bit of decorations or different things such as a vegable patch outside their Anderson Shelter. Here are some pictures of us making our Anderson Shelters and when they were finished.

Agents Of Awesome

Last Thursday a woman called Lisa came in to talk to us about science. She was part of the Agents Of Awesome and they study cells in animals and humans to try to give humans superpowers. She showed us an electric eel and said if we find the right cells in the eel we could have electric powers! While she was talking to us suddenly the smart board got hacked and a mad professor told us that she had broke into the Agents Of Awesome lab and she had the Fridge Of Doom, which is a mini fridge that contains a potion that can create super soldiers. She then said that she was going to use the Fridge Of Doom to create an army of super soldiers and invade the world. Lisa told us that the mad professor was called Jean Splice and she had bionic hearing and that we had to stop her by creating a superhero! We chose these powers for our superhero electricity, camouflage and mind reading. Our superhero was called Multi Man. So we used him to stop her and he saved the world!

He was married to Jean Armour and he had 12 children. We also found out that Burns died on 21st July 1796, he died when he was only 37. On the day of his funeral his 12th child was born. We have also learned the poem Bonnie Jean, Robert Burns wrote this when he met Jean. We learned about figurative language which is when a story writer or poet writes something but they dont fully explain it. We also had to transalate a full verse of scots from Bonnie Jean into english.

In maths we are learning about finance with Miss Gillaspie. We learned how to use an ATM (automated teller machine). ATMs are used to get money and see your account ballence.

Primary 7’s First Week Back

In primary 7 have had a busy week back! We were all very tired at the time, but we are still trying our best to learn as much as possible. We’ve planned Scottish afternoon and are finding out what part we have got and are trying to learn our lines of by heart. We have enjoyed listening to people practising their accents. We also liked that Miss O’Neill has put a bit of comedy into our Scottish afternoon and we will have a laugh performing it!!!!!

We have also be learning about the historical Jacobites and this is the focus for our personal projects this month.

This week we were recount writing about our amazing Christmas holiday.  We had to write about our three favourite highlights of the break.  At first we had to do an introduction to tell the reader what it was we were talking about.  At the end we wrote our conclusion to summarise what happened.

This week  Miss Gillespie came back.  Miss Gillespie is staying in our class until the Easter break, we had her before the Christmas holidays but she just came back on Wednesday!
