Kilbowie Thursday – Day 4

Kilbowie Thursday – Day 4

Up and wide awake for our last day of activities here in Kilbowie.  Although some more wide awake than others…..Weather looks dry but cloudy so hoping for another great day.  Photos to follow later we hope!  Please check both P6/7 and P7 blogs as children will probably appear on both.

Here are the girls’ thoughts for the morning room by room.

Room 27 – Emma A, Yasmin, Kayla and Courtney

Yesterday we all did Safari at different times.  The man was called Derek and he was really funny and told us lots of jokes.  He had set traps to try to catch mice and voles and for one group there was a bank vole in one of the traps.  It was only about 2 inches long including the tail and after we had looked at it he set it free.  We met Derek’s “girls” who are a flock of gulls who come when he whistles for them.  He imitates their noises to get them to come to the pitch where he feeds them.  He has been doing it for 9 years.

Today we are looking forward to Gorge Walking and are excited.  It is going to be cold but lots of fun.  The disco is tonight and we can’t wait to put some nice clothes on instead of wet suits and wellies!

Room 26 – Stephanie, Emma C, Kirah

Kayaking was good because it was the first time most of us had ever paddled a boat on the water.  It was quite easy but your arms hurt with all the paddling.  Nightline was fun because you were blindfolded but there were obstacles hanging down and on the ground that you had to get past.  Today we are looking forward to skiing.  Everyone is Gorge Walking at different times today.  We are a bit nervous about it but excited at the same time.  Tonight is the disco and we are so glad that the rumour about HAVING to dance with boys from another school is not true!!

Room 25 – Neve, Alicia, Georgina and Kirsty

Yesterday we all went on safari with an instructor called Derek.  He explained all about the activity and then we had to wear our waterproofs and wellies.  When we went outside we learned how to shoot a bow and arrow with some plants.  We got to see lots of birds that were Derek’s “friends” as he had trained them to come when he whistles.  He feeds them lots of bread and it costs him £60 a month to feed them.

In the afternoon there was canoeing and we canoed out to Heather Island and then Kerrera.  There was a sheepdog on one of the islands that enjoyed playing with us.  Some people went hill climbing yesterday and when we got to the top we could see Kilbowie.  There were ditches of mud and it was a bit messy!

Today we are all gorge walking at different times.  We are both excited and nervous at the same time.

1.30pm – The latest set of group photos have just been uploaded from the children who  had Chris as their instructor.

Day 2 reviews

Yesterday I learned how to ski.  I thought I wouldn’t be able to do it but I went down the big slope. I learned to never give up.   The food is nice, not what I was expecting.

Taylor

Yesterday morning I learned how to ski.  At first I was feeling a bit nervous but it was actually easy. I was skiing backwards.  Mrs Rae was very impressed with my skills. Then after that we went rock climbing.  We climbed different parts of the hill and we got to abseil down a section.  It was really good fun.

Calum

Yesterday we went canoeing and kayaking, then Fiona took us to different islands.  We took some photos and saw highland cows and highland bulls. On Heather Island we were jumping off cliffs into the sea.  It was excellent.

Courtney

Yesterday I went rock climbing and I had fun.   I enjoyed seeing the views from very high up.  Later after that I went into a canoe boat. At first it was tricky sail but I kind of got the hang of it.   I’m enjoying myself at Kilbowie.

Bobby

We went skiing yesterday and it was really fun but it was really hard at the same time. We were just practising and building our confidence up.  St first we only used one ski then we used two. I managed the second highest slope.   Then in the afternoon we went rock climbing.  It was really good as it made me face my height fear.  I felt a little scared but managed to take part. When it was too much I just went back down.  I felt proud of myself for giving it a go.

Emma

Last night we went a walk. We climbed hills and walked through a lot of mud. It was really good because I didn’t fall once. I found it really funny and I had a good time.

Georgina

After dinner everyone at Kilbowie went on a walk. It was very dark so we had to use torches to help guide us. We had to hold on to a fence to make our way down a big slope and we had to travel in a zigzag pattern to make our way back to the centre.   It was fun.

Joshua

Yesterday we went rock climbing and we had and about five different faces to climb. We had to wear a safety harness so we didn’t fall off. I climbed all of them, as I wanted to given them all a try.   In the afternoon we went kayaking.  I was nervous at first but when I got into the water, I really enjoyed it. We paddled round to a little beach and then we ate flapjacks.

Neve

We were canoeing and kayaking.  I was canoeing with James, Courtney and Stephanie.  Two of our canoes were connected to each other and everyone else were on kayaks.  We sailed to Kerrera Island and then we saw some really rare animals.  Then we went to Heather Island and we jumped off cliffs into the sea with our life jackets on.  I jumped in about ten times!
