3D Shape Making

Today we made some 3D shapes. We also did a text book page on 3D shapes we had  to guess the what shape net it is. We also made polydron shapes we managed to make interesting shapes. We made different pyramids, cubes, cuboid and other shapes.

Taylor- I made a cube

Jordan-I made a trianangular prism

Kali- I made a square base pyramid

Jocelyn- I made a pyramid

Evan&James- We made a dodecahedron

Angus R- I made a pentagonal pyramid

Josh- I made a regular pyramid

Our Coding

IMG_0271

We did some coding on the computers today.  Most of us chose to do a Minecraft game.  There were also other games such as Frozen and Star Wars.  We had to make lists of commands to make the characters do things like destroy blocks or shear sheep.  On the Star Wars one there were different headings of commands which made different things happen.

Each level got harder and some were timed.  Some of us made loop commands to make the characters do the same thing over and over again.  The blocks of code sometimes had options so you could chose which items you were going to place.

Matthew- I enjoyed getting the different objects and using commands.

Liam – I enjoyed the graphics

Jordan – I enjoyed working through the different levels.

Bethany – Ienjoyed it when it got harder!

Kali – I liked how it got harder each level.

Lewis – I enjoyed working out which way you had to go.

Jake – I enjoyed that when it got harder there were new obstacles to beat.

More 3D shape work

Today we were investigating pentagonal pyramids.

Here are their properties:

Liam – They have six faces.

Marty – There are 5 triangular faces.

Jocelyn – They have 10 edges.

Lewis – It is called a pentagonal pyramid because there is a pentagon at the base.

Keavie – This is an irregular shape because not all the faces are the same shape.

Christopher- It has 6 corners or vertices.

We also used polydron to make different 3D shapes.

Swimming Sensations

Our first swimming lesson took place today.  Here are some of our thoughts…

Matthew – It was quite hard to get changed quickly.  After the swimming lots of our stuff was wet.  Next time I might bring a bigger bag and get it all in there instead of just dumping it in the locker.

Lewis – We started swimming in the shallower end and then lots of us went into the deeper end.

Ava – The lockers were quite small and some people struggled to get their bags to fit.

Jocelyn – After swimming we went to PE and did basketball.

Carmen – In PE we did basketball and we had to dribble round each other.

James – The first six weeks of PE will be basketball then the next six will be volleyball.

Angus M – After the end of the swimming lesson we were allowed to play for 2 minutes in the water.

Evan – We had to do a test to see how well we could swim.  We had to go from one side of the pool to the other.  You could walk, run or swim.

3D shape nets

Here are some of our facts…

Ava – A cuboid has 6 faces.

Kali – A cuboid must have some rectangular faces.

Brodie – A cuboid is an irregular 3D shape.

Matthew – It is irregular because the faces are not all the same shape.

Keavie – A cuboid has 8 vertices.  (A vertice is like the corner on the shape)

Christopher – A cuboid can have 4 rectangular faces and 2 square faces.

Maggie – A cuboid has 12 straight edges.

Carmen – A cuboid can have 6 rectangular faces.

Angus – All the edges on a cuboid are parallel.

Next time we will be looking at nets of other shapes.

Our new points system

Today we made a new point system because we had to get 10 points but people where only getting 8 and 9 so we decided to change it. Before the new way if we didn’t get ten then we had to go back to 1.   The new way is you can take as long as you want to get 10 and if you get to 10 you get to choose a pass.

Some of the passes we chose were:

ICT monitor

drawing time

computer time

reading time

cushion time

choose a partner for a session

extra literacy

extra maths

construction time pick a class job

art time

iPad time

reading time

line leader

treat bin pass

board game time

we made our passes this afternoon and here are some photos of us working. By Lewis and Jake
