Transition

Transfer from Nursery to Primary

Details for  enrolment – We continue to work with our partnership nurseries to make the transition to Primary School as smooth as possible. Children come from a variety of nurseries in the local area including Jigsaw, Lochview, Stepping Stones and Snowdrop nurseries among other. In a previous session our children came from around 18 nurseries. Unfortunately, we can’t always guarantee a nursery visit prior to the children starting school. Mrs Fleck is in contact with all the nurseries prior to the children starting school and transition information is passed onto us.

This session, the enrolments will take place in school on week beginning 16th January. Letters have been emailed to nurseries giving times

Three induction events are usually held in Feb/Mar, April/May and in June to support the children in making a smooth transition into Chryston Primary School. Parents attend an evening transition, without the children; the second event the pupils usually spend an afternoon in the classroom and the third event is a shared lunch where the pupils and their parents experience the dining hall. This session’s induction may take place in a different way since we are hoping to be in our new school in August 2023.

 Transfer from Primary to Secondary

Pupils normally transfer between the ages of 11 and 12, so that they will have the opportunity to complete at least 4 years of secondary education.  Parents will be informed of the arrangements no later than December of the year preceding the date of transfer at the start of the new session.

Pupils from Chryston Primary normally transfer to: –

Chryston Primary has very good relations with Chryston High and its staff and pupils.  Links are strong in curricular continuity and transition procedures and these are reviewed annually to ensure the highest quality of service and smooth transition for pupils and parents.

Many transition events take place throughout the course of a session, involving P.6 & P.7 pupils from across the Chryston Cluster.  This gives young people the opportunity to visit the high school, meet with the staff, meet pupils from other schools and take part in challenging activities making learning more meaningful. In recent sessions such opportunities have included a Maths Challenge, Science Challenge and K’Nex Challenge.

This year our pupils have already taken part in an art transition project which will involve all the schools in the Chryston Cluster.

Here is a link to the transition page on their website – https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/nl/chrystonhigh/p7-s1-transition/

All cluster primaries read a shared novel in the final term with the final chapters being read in S1.  Pupils also complete a profile of themselves which is shared with the secondary school.

Staff from Chryston High make regular visits to P7 and speak to staff.

These events are reviewed regularly by staff from all schools, to ensure they are meeting the needs of all learners.
