Annual Awards Ceremony 2017

Obviously we are very proud of all our pupils at Calderhead High SchoolĀ and Ā were delighted to honour some of themĀ at the annual awards ceremony on 21 June.

The ceremony was held atĀ Calderhead Erskine Parish Church in Shotts and pupils, staff and proud family and friends attended. The guest speaker was Dr Fiona Menzies, a former pupil, who gave an inspirational speech andĀ made us laugh as she recalled her first day at Calderhead High School. Dr Menzies lectures at the University of the West of Scotland and her teaching interests include host-pathogen interactions, immunology, physiology, and reproductive biology.

Our talented pupils also provided some excellent entertainment satrting with a spirited rendition of ‘Scotland the Brave’ Ā by CHS Pipes & Drums. Our vocal group sangĀ “Try Everything”, Ā  Steven McLaren and Shana Murray performed ‘Ashokan Farewell’ accompaniedĀ by Mrs Prucnal, the Ā CHS Samba Band treated us to ‘Aquarela do Brasil’, Paige Bryce sangĀ  ‘A Thousand Years’ , Ā and ‘These Foolish Things’ was performed by Shana Murray, our Ā talented flautist. A special mention must go to S3 pupils, Jordan Muir and Andrew Hayburn, who provided excellent technical support and are worth successors to Andrew Lynch, our former School Captain and guru of all things technical!

A Fond Farewell…

Study leave for our senior students started recently and we said a fond farewell to our S6 and some other senior pupils. The ā€œleaversā€ enjoyed assemblies with the Headteacher and Depute Heads and were treated to a lunchtime buffet. We would like to wish them luck in their upcoming exams and assessments and all the best for the future.

S4 Achieve Bookbugs

The Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug gifts book bags to every child in Scotland and runs free song & rhymes sessions for families with babies and young children. Last week was Bookbug Week and special events took place all over the country.

The theme this year was Bookbug’s Big Giggle and our S4 Achieve Group joined in the fun by reading to the Nursery children at Shotts Family Learning Centre. We very much promote reading for pleasure at Calderhead High School and it was great to see the Nursery children enjoying the stories.
