Christmas Fayre 2018

Christmas ElfOur annual  Christmas Fayre took place in the school on Saturday, 1 December 2018. The event was organised by our S4 Achieve class who planned, organised and facilitated our fantastic Christmas Fayre (and helped set up and clear away).

Visitors were treated to excellent performances throughout the Fayre by our bagpipers and drummers and school choir accompanied by Mrs Prucnal on piano. There were many different stalls, including some fantastic decorations created by the Technology Department. Refreshments including hotdogs, cakes. teas and coffee were available (not forgetting Logyne’s delicious reindeer chocolate lollies).

No Christmas Fayre would be complete without Santa, who was happy to meet everyone in his grotto.

There was also a tombola and raffle with some fabulous prizes and the S4 achieve class would like to congratulate all the raffle winners.  Winners can collect their prizes from the school office – don’t forget your ticket! Congratulations to all our lucky winners (click here for list of winners).

Dungeon Trip

S3 Achieve class tripPupils in Mrs Byrne’s S3 Achieve class recently enjoyed a reward trip to Edinburgh Dungeon. The Achieve class have been doing some great work over the last few months, including an Art project and Intergenerational Project with Rose Hall Manor and helping the team going to Malawi organise their fundraising coffee morning and the pupil movie event just before the Easter break.

S4 Achieve Bookbugs

The Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug gifts book bags to every child in Scotland and runs free song & rhymes sessions for families with babies and young children. Last week was Bookbug Week and special events took place all over the country.

The theme this year was Bookbug’s Big Giggle and our S4 Achieve Group joined in the fun by reading to the Nursery children at Shotts Family Learning Centre. We very much promote reading for pleasure at Calderhead High School and it was great to see the Nursery children enjoying the stories.

4th Year Achieve Group

4th Year AchieveS4 Achieve pupils Caitlin, Natalia & Jemma were invited by Stane Primary School to teach Primary 4, 5 and 6 pupils special effect makeup techniques, as part of the school’s art fortnight. The pupils enjoyed learning all about SFX makeup and no doubt a few of their parents will be getting a fright when they see the makeup applied!

4th Year Achieve Group

Pupils in the 4th Year Achieve Group at Calderhead High School are taking part in a Community Art Project in Shotts Nature Park in partnership with Central Scotland Green Network Trust, CCI Scotland, and Shotts Nursery. The project aims to tidy up and landscape the area, and help make and design an 8ft x 5ft Green Man mask. The pupils will be working  with artist, Shirley Tiscali, and children from the  nursery each week.
