St Bernadette's

Welcome Back!

We have had a very good start to the new session. It has been wonderful to see the children looking so smart in their new uniforms. (Hopefully the new P7 ties will arrive next week!) Our new P1 have settled very quickly, already I can see they are going to be a great class; full of confidence and enthusiasm. The children in P7 have also been excellent taking on their role as buddies to the little ones. I have great confidence we are going to have another very positive year in St Bernadette’s.

Yesterday we were delighted to welcome Fr. Alfred from St Anne’s Parish in Namulenga to our school. He thoroughly enjoyed his visit and was very impressed with our children. He also expressed deep gratitude for the school partnership and for the generosity of those who had contributed to the back pack appeal. Mrs McIntyre and I are now becoming very excited about our visit to Namulenga in September when we will get to meet with the children and work in the school. We have got some great lessons planned including Scottish Country Dancing! During the visit we will work with the staff of Namulenga Girls’ School to plan ahead for the shared curriculum projects and for the return visit of the Malawian teachers in May 2015.

This term our classes will work with the teachers to choose their own topics, I am really looking forward to hearing about the choices. We have many ideas and projects planned for this year to keep us all busy once again.

What a fabulous surprise our children got yesterday when they went to check on our vegetable plot. They came back with bags full of fresh vegetables including two giant marrow! P5/6 are spent this morning using some of them to make delicious soup. P1 enjoyed being outdoors yesterday picking some of the blackcurrants. Our fruit trees are growing well and we will be hoping for a big crop next year. P3 have also started their Big Chef Little Chef sessions on Wednesday afternoons. Look out for a letter for P2 and P1 dates.
