Viking Drama with Primary 1-4

As part of their Viking topic, Primary 1-4 have been using facial expression, body language, thought bubbles and speech bubbles in their Still Images to show what their characters are thinking and feeling. Here are some photographs of the children in action! Note: the theme was ‘A Viking Raid’ – that’s why we have some scary, angry faces!  See if you can tell where the Vikings might be raiding!

Calderbank’s Annual Christmas Show – The Little Match Girl!

We are pleased to announce that our Christmas show this year – The Little Match Girl was a success! We are so proud of all of our pupils who put in a lot of hard work to prepare for the show and put on an excellent performance on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evening! Many thanks to all of the parents and staff who helped out behind the scenes, we couldn’t have done it without you! To all who attended, thank you! We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did!

Calderbank Commonwealth Games!

On Friday we hosted our very own Commonwealth Games!

Primary 3/4 treated us to an Australian Aboriginal Opening Ceremony and performed a song and dance called ‘The Crane’.

The children then split into Commonwealth Teams: Scotland, Australia, Jamaica, Canada, South Africa and Barbados. Each team took part in six activities which ranged from basketball, hockey, relay racing, javelin throw to hurdles and football.

Thank you to all the parents who came to show their support and participate in our parent egg and spoon race! Your effort was eggcellent!

Picasso Portraits

Inspired by the work of Pablo Picasso, 3/4 created their own abstract portraits using oil pastels in hot and cold colours.

I can create and present work using the visual elements of line, shape, form, colour, tone, pattern and texture. EXA 1-03a

I can respond to the work of artists and designers by discussing my thoughts and feelings. I can give and accept constructive comment on my own and others’ work. EXA 1-07a

Music Tuition

P4-7 had the opportunity to try out a range of  instruments and enjoyed a musical performance from our woodwind tutor.

I have experienced the energy and excitement of presenting/performing for audiences and being part of an audience for other people’s presentations/performances. EXA 1-01a / EXA 2-01a

Any children interested in music tuition are invited to contact the school for more information.

Playground Improvers!

Our mural is taking shape despite the rain ! We are hoping to complete our mural and the repainting of  all of our playground markings soon.

We are keen that everyone gets the opportunity to get involved in the painting and hope that all children bring in old clothes and shoes, if they haven’t already done so, to enable them to take part.
