Learner Participation

At Dykesmains Primary we aim to give our children many opportunities to develop skills for life. We have many children can join which give children a voice and allow them to make a difference to themselves and the other children in the school.

Pupil voice is very important in our classrooms. Pupils have a wide range of opportunities to share their thoughts and ideas such as Pupil Choice Interdisciplinary Learning, class trips, lunch and after school clubs. Dykesmains Primary School pride themselves on listening to our learners and responding to their ideas, questions, thoughts and requests.  Please take time to watch short videos of pupils sharing their experiences in school.

Participation in opportunities for personal achievement

Our commitment to nurturing individual talents and fostering personal growth has led to the offering of a wide variety of opportunities and activities across the year. We strive to provide a well-rounded curriculum that challenges and supports learners as a foundation for personal achievements.  Celebrating these successes aims support learners to recognise their achievements, encouraging them to set higher goals and actively engage in school activities to promote a sense of community.

Participation in opportunities for decision making

We strive offer a wide range of committees and leadership roles to pupils across all stages.  This provides a platform for learners to voice their opinions, suggestions, and concerns, promoting democratic values and responsible citizenship. Learner representatives actively contribute to decision-making processes, such as choosing charity initiatives, planning school events, and improving the learning environment.

Participating in connection with the wider community

We are now building on strengthening our connection with the wider community.  We seek opportunities to engage with our feeder Early Years Centres, Ardrossan Academy and Arran View Care Home.  As part of our Developing the Young Workforce, we are always looking for opportunities to link with local businesses and professions.  This session, our children have had the opportunity to learn new skills from Ardrossan Academics Rugby Club,  North Ayrshire Athletics, GMK and Kilmarnock Football club.
