Information for Parents  🙂
Curriculum for Excellence aims to achieve a transformation in education in Scotland by providing a coherent, flexible and enriched curriculum from ages 3 to 18.

The curriculum includes the totality of experiences which are planned for children and young people through their education, wherever they are being educated. Please see our Curriculum Rationale link to learn more about our contexts of learning in Cumbrae.

Curriculum for Excellence : Reporting to Parents

Reporting allows information to be shared and exchanged among children and young people, parents and staff. At the centre of reporting are informed discussions between teachers and parents on their child’s learning. It focuses on what information is needed to ensure that parents know what their child has achieved and how well he/she is doing against expectations. It provides a summary of what the learner has aimed for; describes progress in terms of what the learner has achieved so far; and sets out for the learner, parents and staff what needs to be done to ensure continued progress and improved standard of achievement.

At Cumbrae Primary we have two formal parents evenings in November and March. We also issue an annual report in June. However, we communicate daily with you showcasing your child’s learning through the Seesaw App. you will receive a log in for this when your child joins our school.

What will it cover?

Assessment will focus on the application of standard and expectations of each learner’s progress and achievement in:

knowledge and understanding;
skills; and
attributes and capabilities
There will be a strong emphasis on the development of literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing, particularly from early level through to third level where young people will be experiencing a broad general education.

The expectations about progress through curriculum levels are shown below.

Curriculum Level Stage
Early The pre school years and P1
First To the end of P4
Second To the end of P7
Third, fourth S1 to S3 (Fourth level broadly aligns to SCQF level 4)

It is recognised that children and young people will progress at different rates; some will require additional support and may take longer for their learning to be secure at a particular level for some or all areas of the curriculum; others will achieve secure learning sooner. Most learners will progress into the fourth level in many aspects of their learning before the end of S3.
