Primary 6/7

Primary 6/7 – Mrs Joyce

🙂  Welcome to Primary 6/7  🙂

Please check our class Seesaw pages over the term to find out more about our learning.

Literacy

Reading – Our reading activities are often based around our IDL topic. For example while we have been studying World War 2 we have been reading Carrie’s War. During the course of the week we also have regular sessions for grammar and spelling when we learn about the mechanics of the English language.

Writing – Our writing is always purposeful and usually linked to our IDL. We also use PM writing to develop specific writing skills.

Throughout our extended writing sessions  we will learn to use more complex Vocabulary, Connectives, Openers and Punctuation (VCOP) to improve our writing. We will be focusing on writer’s craft and how this can extend our writing.

We have many opportunities to develop skills in these areas through debates, talks, presentations, school shows and our Mock Court experiences. We were Scottish winners of the Junior Mock Court Challenge in 2020 and 2022.

Numeracy

We practise maths mental agility on a daily basis in class and have regular access to Sumdog to revise lots of maths skills – at www.sumdog.com.

Our core maths skills are taught daily by our teacher and extended through resources such as Leckie, Teejay or IDL tasks. Every week we have a problem enquiry to investigate which is always very thought provoking!

Health and Wellbeing

Our main focus is to ensure the children are happy, safe and secure. All our activities underpin our school values of teamwork, respect, ambition, inclusion and nurture.

We follow the Largs cluster PE plan which gives us experience of team games, ball skills, gymnastics and dance.

One of our favourite activities is learning outdoors and playing games with each other.
