Inverclyde Education Services’ Child Protection Policy and Guidance (March 2025)
At Wemyss Bay Primary School and Nursery Class, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our top priority. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive environment where children are protected from harm, abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Child Protection is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, parents, carers, visitors, and pupils have a role to play in keeping children safe.
Our Child Protection Team

-
Mrs A. Kaur – Acting Depute Head Teacher & Depute Child Protection Coordinator (DCPC) + Depute PREVENT lead
-
Mrs H. Milligan – Nursery Depute (member of CP team)
Posters with photographs and contact details of the Child Protection Team are displayed across the school and nursery to ensure children and adults know who to approach if they have a concern.
What to do if you are concerned
If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please speak to a member of the Child Protection Team immediately. If a child is believed to be in immediate danger, the police should be contacted without delay.
Our commitment
-
All visitors must sign in and wear a visitor badge, which contains safeguarding and fire evacuation information.
-
Staff receive regular training in Child Protection and Safeguarding, including the PREVENT Duty, which helps protect children from the risks of radicalisation and extremism.
-
Information is shared with parents and carers through newsletters, our school handbook, and on-site displays.
By working together, we ensure that Wemyss Bay Primary School and Nursery Class is a safe, nurturing place where every child can learn, grow, and thrive.
