Modern Languages

BGE – 3rd Level, 4th Level

Pupils will develop their ability to listen, read, talk and write in the foreign language.  The topics covered are Description, Daily Routine and Holidays.

National 4 – BBC Bitesize

National 4 Modern Languages Courses develop literacy skills by giving pupils opportunities to read, listen, talk and write in a modern language and to reflect on how this relates to English. These courses enable pupils to understand and use a modern language, to apply their knowledge of a modern language, and to develop planning, research and language skills.

National 5 – BBC Bitesize

The National 5 course aims to enable pupils to develop the ability to read, listen, talk and write in a foreign language; that is to understand and use French/Spanish and to apply their knowledge and understanding of the language. The course offers the opportunity to develop detailed language skills in the real-life contexts of society, learning, employability and culture.

Higher – BBC Bitesize

The Higher qualification gives learners the opportunity of reaching a stage where the language is used independently in confident and flexible ways. The course develops communicative competence to a level of some sophistication in a range of situations.

Learners focus on developing their competence in the contexts of lifestyles, education and work, and the wider world. They may also focus on extended reading and possibly viewing, or on the productive, interactive or mediating uses of language which might be required in work-related contexts. The course offers a wider understanding of how language works.
