This Scottish Government guidance explains the duties on education authorities and other agencies to support children’s and young people’s learning.

Scottish Government guidance which provides advice on the roles and responsibilities of local authorities, schools, hospitals and other services in relation to children unable to attend school due to ill health, to ensure that these children continue to learn whenever possible. The guidance also advises on the duty of parents under the Education (Scotland) Act 1980 to provide education for their child either by ensuring they attend a local authority school, or by making alternative arrangements.
