The Children and Young People’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework sets out a clear broad approach for the support that children and young people should be able to access for their mental health and emotional wellbeing within their community.
Every child and young person and their families or carers will get the help they need, when they need it, from people with the right knowledge, skills and experience to support them. This will be available in the form of easily accessible support close to their home, education, employment or community.
What is the Inverclyde Children and Young People’s Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework?
The Scottish Government have given funding to local authorities, like Inverclyde, to build and improve children and young people’s services to uphold the rights of children and young people and meet their mental health needs. The funding also helps facilitate the enhancement or creation of services that can deliver support which is additional and innovative wherever these are best placed.
How do we do it?
By working in a joined-up way to support children and young people in all areas of their life –
- Home
- Community
- School
- Health
What will we help with?
- Social, emotional, behavioural and relational difficulties
- Trauma
- Bereavement, change and loss
- Gender identity
- Self-harm, self-injury and suicide
- Substance use
What can the educational psychology service do?
As part of an agreement with the Scottish Government, local authorities are asked to share their plans for the delivery of enhanced or new community – based supports for children and young people experiencing emotional / mental distress.
In Inverclyde we see this as a great opportunity to strengthen our support for children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. We have set out a plan outlining what we shall be delivering with our partners in 2023 and 2024:
These plans should cover how local need will be met and be informed by the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Framework and Principles.
