Professional learning

It is important for us as practitioners to keep up to date with what is happening in the STEM landscape.  Within this you will find anytime learning opportunities and other key materials to support and deepen your professional knowledge and understanding in order for you to develop progressive and innovative practice.

Practitioner and Local Authority Support

We have a team of STEM Education Officers ready to discuss any professional learning needs your local authority, establishment or you might have in relation to STEM.

Education Scotland’s Education Officers are able to provide a wide range of professional learning support in STEM for early years, primary, ASN, secondary and CLD practitioners.  We are also happy to discuss how we might provide support for school-based technical support staff.

As we are in the process of educational reform, that has meant changes to the way we work. Previously our team of Development and Education Officers delivered support through a regional model linked with the Regional Improvement Collaboratives. We are now working in project teams. You will find details of who is working on on each project below and how to contact them.

Thanks for your support and we look forward to continuing to work with you.

STEM Context Planners.

Our newest resource are our STEM context planners from the RAiSE programme. These planners have been created by teachers, for teachers to give some potential STEM learning activities for commonly taught contexts across Early, First and Second Levels. Each plan is linked to Experiences and Outcomes as well as Sustainable Development Goals and Meta-Skills. These planners are provided as examples and suggestions and are by no means prescriptive.

You can also contact the STEM team at STEM@educationscotland.gov.scot to discuss your needs and/or book a professional learning session.  We are also happy to discuss bespoke programmes to support your needs. Sessions can be requested by local authorities, clusters, individual establishments for a whole team or small group as appropriate.
