In our recent national audit on growth mindset use and development, teachers told us that they had observed an increase in classroom attainment, which they attributed to growth mindset.

Formal evaluations are relatively rare, but at Winning Scotland Foundation we are supporting schools to measure changes as they happen, and use these measurements to inform next steps.

A recent project at a primary school in Clackmannanshire showed how one teacher’s use of the ‘learning pit’ with her class led to a healthy approach to overcoming challenge.

“Well, he’s not cried since we’ve learned about the learning pit.   he’ll accept that ‘ok, I’m allowed to feel anxious and upset and I need to do something to get myself out of it’.”

Nursery children in Braehead nursery, Stirling, learned about the brain and worked closely with growth mindset ambassadors from the primary school as they learned about the relationship between practice and achievement.
