Attainment

wsf-1-29Growth mindset is recognised to have a positive impact on attainment in the classroom.

Attainment in school matters because it affects children’s beliefs about, and expectations of, themselves as well as adults’ beliefs about children. Longer term, attainment affects life chances as well as health and professional outcomes.

There is a relationship between attainment and poverty, where children who do less well at school are more likely to be living in poverty. The Scottish Attainment Challenge,  based on findings from a Joseph Rowntree report (pdf)  aims to raise the attainment of children and young people living in deprived areas in order to reduce this gap.
