Starting University, I had no idea what to expect. The weeks leading up to my first week was a mix of emotions. On the one hand I was really excited to get thrown into uni life- meeting new people, being in a new surrounding, taking on the responsibilities of being a student and starting a new adventure. On the other hand, I was nervous- of making new friends, of travelling such a distance away from home everyday, of generally stepping right out of my comfort zone.

One of the things that I’m looking forward most to about being a student teacher is getting the chance to go on placement, especially so early on. Due to having previous (positive) experience within a classroom, this left me with feelings of hope yet fear for further classroom experience. One thing I have to keep reminding myself is that not every class will be easy and amazing. There will be stress and challenges to overcome. It won’t all be a walk in the park.

My first two weeks at UWS have been full of learning. As I have came straight from High School I was unsure of what to expect. My first thoughts were that it was extremely over-whelming and not what I imagined. However, on the first day everyone was really helpful and I was made to feel comfortable and settled. We were straight into learning. I expected to come in to ice breakers and different simple activities but instead we were given powerpoints of information. As I have worked my way through the first two weeks of University I have gained more knowledge and understanding on the information in the course. I have also enjoyed meeting lots of new people. I feel from this i have widely developed on my communication skills. I am looking forward to the next year of education.

Initially, starting university at UWS seemed quite scary and daunting for many reasons. It was my first time travelling to ayr from Glasgow on my own using the train which was scary prospect in itself, but i also knew absolutely nobody coming to study Education at UWS. However the people at UWS were very welcoming and made me feel right at home the minute i walked into the reception area. My first week at UWS i was introduced to many new people and lecturers within the university as well as meeting lots of new people and making some new friends. The first week was packed full of lots of important information on module options and professionalism. What i found most helpful through the whole of induction week was speaking to the BA2 students as it was extremely helpful to hear there experiences, their thoughts and opinions on certain modules from BA1 as well as hearing any advice they had for us.

Prior to starting UWS, I was very nervous and anxious about the whole  experience as it was something very new and also very different to what I was used to. Hearing other peoples views on university added to my anxiety about starting as they had made it out to be something so great that i felt like, if I did not feel the same way they did when they started university then I should not be here. But this attitude of mines quickly changed. Although it was very different from high school, I felt like i needed the change. However even though the first few days were difficult and very intense, I know in the end it will all be worth it. Settling into BA1 has been over whelming and a little difficult to get used to but now being two weeks in to going to lectures, tutorials and workshops everyday, I now feel like I am used to it and by the end of BA4 it will all be second nature to me. As our first placement is quickly coming upon us, it as all became very real and that in a few short years I will finally be a qualified primary teacher.

My First two Weeks on the BA Education Course

I have now been in the BA1 education programme for 2 weeks and i have never enjoyed something so much in my life. I have been able to meet new people with the same interests and passion as myself. We have taken part in Situated communication, Mathematics, Literacy of Understanding and French. Through my own primary education i feared some of these topics and i am so looking forward to tackle them head on and over come these fears because in the short time I've spent on the course i understand the importance of having a positive outlook on everything i teach and not passing my fears. Everyone i have encountered on the course, Lectures and students, have made me even more excited to become a teacher and I'm excited to start my first placement in October.
