Creative Scotland Funding Update – January 2014

Creative Scotland will be announcing its timetable for launching new funding streams and how to apply in April, alongside the publication of its strategic plan.

Regular funding for organisations

The funding deadline for organisations wishing to be considered for regular funding from April 2015 will be in July 2014. Guidelines will be available from April 2014 and we will be discussing the transition needs of currently funded organisations with them direct, over the coming months.

Project funding

The new project funding programme will open in October 2014 and Creative Scotland is planning to run the following programmes until at least that time (deadlines to be advised shortly):

The final list of programmes will be confirmed once budgets have been approved by the Board in March.

Small grant support for implementing the CLD Strategic Guidance

Education Scotland is keen to support work which will contribute to the delivery of the key outcomes identified in the CLD Strategic Guidance and has set aside a small grant support stream for activities during financial year 2013/14.

Proposals must be submitted by Friday 19 April 2013, all proposals will be considered by an evaluation panel that will meet in April.

Funding will be very limited and is not intended to replace other funding streams for CLD.  A further evaluation panel may be held in September 2013 subject to funds being available.  Further information about the dates for this panel will be provided in July 2013.  We will not be able to consider applications for funding at any other times during 2013/14.

New Music Biennial 2014 – music commissioning fund

In partnership with Creative Scotland, PRS for Music Foundation is proud to announce the launch of the first ever UK-wide New Music Biennial, presenting a series of brand new music commissions to audiences across the UK in 2014.

Organisations (not limited to those working primarily in music) can apply for up to £20,000 to commission and perform new work from individual composers across all genres. The scheme will support and promote up to twenty new commissions, which will be performed across the length and breadth of the UK as Scotland prepares to celebrate the Commonwealth Games.

This first edition of New Music Biennial has been developed with Creative Scotland, Arts Council England and the British Council. Additional support has been provided by Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Arts Council of Wales and John S. Cohen Foundation. The scheme will be delivered in partnership with BBC Radio 3, NMC Recordings, Southbank Centre and Glasgow UNESCO City of Music.

New support for young people to gain vocational qualifications and to work in the arts and creative industries

Up to 23, year-long, paid Modern Apprenticeships with arts organisations aimed at young people aged 16 to 20 will be created in a partnership between Creative Scotland, Young Scot, Creative & Cultural Skills Scotland and Creative Skillset.

Young people taking part in the Modern Apprenticeships will study for vocational qualifications while gaining professional experience working for an arts organisation. Creative Scotland will offer employers up to £8,000 towards the salary of each apprentice, enabling organisations to provide positions.

Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme Open Fund

From 23 July – 3 August 2014, Glasgow will host the XX Commonwealth Games, one of the world’s most significant multi-sports events.

Glasgow 2014 will be Scotland’s largest ever combined sporting and cultural celebration, and the vision is to stage an outstanding Games that will be celebrated at home and across the Commonwealth. As an integral part of an unforgettable Commonwealth Games experience, we have the ambition to stage and support a truly spectacular and surprising programme of cultural events that will bring the Commonwealth to Scotland and take Scotland to the Commonwealth.

Glasgow 2014 Limited, Creative Scotland and Glasgow Life are now inviting individuals and organisations to apply to the Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme Open Fund.

This fund is a major component in the development of the nationwide Glasgow 2014 Cultural Programme and aims to enhance the Games experience for Scotland’s communities, spectators and visitors, as well as present the best of Scotland’s culture alongside that of the Commonwealth.

A total of £4million is available and individual artists, community-led groups and arts organisations are invited to apply for awards ranging from £20,000 up to £300,000.

Projects can be new and one-off events or enhancements of an existing festival or programme of work. They can feature in either or both the Scotland-wide programme Culture 2014 – which will focus on the countdown to the Games before the focus subsequently turns to other major events, such as the Ryder Cup and the Edinburgh Festivals – and Festival 2014, which will transform Glasgow during Games-time.

‘Start’ funding for arts organisations to engage with schools

The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts is inviting cultural institutions across the UK to apply to the Start programme.

Start is a grant-giving programme set up by The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts to enable schoolchildren to experience the very best of the arts by introducing them to their local cultural venue.

Start provides funding and support to arts organisations to foster long-lasting relationships between arts venues and their local schools in deprived areas. At the heart of Start is our desire to make cultural venues accessible for a new generation.

Start partners with projects that work within the following broad framework to engage young people with all aspects of the arts:
·         Introducing young people to the arts;
·         Inspiring them to learn more;
·       Enhancing their experience through critical analysis and participation; and
·         Encouraging them to Create their own art.

Children and the Arts is looking to recruit new partners for the 2013/14 academic year.  We are seeking passionate and committed organisations to work with us to develop and deliver Start to primary and secondary school students in their local area.  Our aim, and that of our partners, is that pupils will develop the confidence and enthusiasm to continue their engagement with their local cultural venue beyond the life of the project.

National Park travel grant scheme for schools and groups

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park has launched a new pilot scheme to help schools and outreach groups experience the great outdoors in the Park by offering an Educational Travel Grant. With forests to explore, landscapes to walk and climb, lochs and rivers to sail on and rich wildlife and history to discover, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park provides the perfect outdoor classroom for schools and groups.

Funds will be provided for up to 75% of total transport costs. This includes transport to and from schools or a group’s meeting place to the National Park and the costs of accessing Inchcailloch island for outdoor learning activities. CashBack for Creativity: Dance Fund

This new CashBack for Communities fun delivered through a partnership between Creative Scotland and Youthlink Scotland, aims to engage more young people in high quality dance programmes, helping them to develop confidence and skills for life, learning and work.

A total of £100,000 will be invested in community based dance programmes with individual proposals being able to access awards of up to £5,000. Applications are invited from organisations within the youth work sector and/or those working with young people to support the delivery of FREE dance based activities.

The closing date for all submissions is Thursday 13 December.
