9.30 – 10.15 – Team Scotland athletes share their stories and answer your questions. This interactive session will feature athletes from a variety of sports
10.30 – 10.45 – Key notes: Young people present their own Games journeys and speak about their personal success as well as their ambitions and hopes in the wake of the Games.
Game On Scotland will run a number of Glow Meets in order for learners to relive their Games experiences, connect with Team Scotland athletes and consider the wider legacy implications of the Games such as Scotland’s international reputation, global issues such as inclusion, diversity or justice (Glow access is required to join these sessions).
Initial offers include the following Glow meets for learners:
Louise and Kimberley will speak about their experiences of becoming Commonwealth Champions within the space of a day from each other. They will also share with learners some their special Games moments as well as the secrets to success. A highly inspiring session with the chance of young people to interact with Louise and Kimberley and have their questions answered.

Over the next 3 weeks Game On Scotland is delighted to be able to present you with an exciting series of Glow Meets for learners to hear from top Scottish athletes and post their questions to them.
These sessions will include athletes such as Colin Gregor (Rugby 7s Captain), Eilish McColgan (athletics), Meggan Dawson-Farrell (wheelchair racer) as well as presenter and adventurer, Mark Beaumont.
Joining the first session tomorrow may also win you a Clyde Doll. The best question posted will be selected as the winner.

Meet the Athletes 1: Sport in a Global Context

Join Colin Gregor, captain of the Rugby 7s Team, Audrey McIntosh, the first Scot to complete an Antarctic marathon and 100k run in just 3 days as well as Angie Malone, British Wheelchair Curling team and Bronze medal winner from Sochi 2014, to hear about their extraordinary achievements as well as their views on global issues such as gender equality and inclusion.

Athletes Challenge Global Issues – Workshop

Learners from St Blane’s Primary in Blantyre will begin the workshop by presenting their findings from research carried out on tribal conflict in Rwanda and sectarianism in Scotland. The presenting group will be taking questions from the Glow audience and posing a some questions of their own to challenge learners participating on Glow. Leaners will provide an opportunity to get involved in a comparative discussing focused on tribal conflict in Rwanda and sectarianism in Scotland.
Meet the Athletes 2: Preparing for the Games

On 15 May, school pupils from across Scotland will be inspired to ‘be their personal best’ by meeting and learning from dozens of Scotland’s top athletes, including Olympic and Commonwealth medallists.Two world-famous Scottish sporting heroes will also be revealed and will take part on the day!
Through a series of workshops, the event aims to inspire young people to be successful in life and show them that everyone has it in them to succeed. The athletes will help the pupils understand how to learn through failure and how success comes from sustained effort.
No matter who you are, where you’re from or what you’re good at, everyone has it in them to be their personal best.
The session will include the following components:

10.35 – 11.10: “Success through effort” – an active workshop session
11.20 – 11.50: “Athlete Lounge” – Q&A session with an exclusive slot for Glow participants

Over the Easter break the highest ever Game On Scotland plaque presentation took place during a spectacular tour across glaciers in the Stubai valley (Austria). At over 10 000 feet (3254m, Obere Hölltalscharte) Ian Menzies surprised his fellow mountaineer by pulling the plaque out of his rucksack. Game On DO K Mayer commented: I nearly fell backwa……!
Since then Game On Scotland has reached the following peaks on its magnificent journey:
We have over 750 registered Game On Challenges anything from school programmes to cluster Games. We awarded over 120 plaques in recognition of the exciting learning experiences provided by schools across the Commonwealth. The first international plaque (Nr. 100) was handed out by the Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison in Canada last week. Game On Scotland sent Clyde to over 160 schools, arranged more than 40 athlete visits to schools across Scotland and provided over 6500 learners with the unique opportunity of having their artwork displayed in bedrooms of athletes and officials (see attachment).
With just 10 weeks to go before the Opening Ceremony we now have recorded over 4000 direct registrations with GOS, more than 35 000 downloads and an estimated half a million young people involved through Game On.

As part of our ongoing series of Glow Meets, we’re delighted to confirm that intrepid adventurer and jet-setting BBC reporter Mark Beaumont will be joining us on Tuesday 29th April. You can register to get involved here.
Mark is currently working his way around 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth, following the Queen’s Baton as it visits the countries who will be heading to Glasgow to compete in this summer’s Games. His journey has so far taken him to Asia, Oceania, Africa, South America and the Caribbean as part of a trip which began when the Queen’s Baton left Buckingham Palace on 9 October last year.
On Tuesday the Baton will be in Ottawa, Canada, and Mark will be joining our Social Studies themed Glow Meet at 2pm to talk about his experiences and answer questions from school students across Scotland.
From Canada the baton will move on to Europe, returning to Scotland on 14 June where it will spend 40 days visiting communities in all 32 local authority areas. The 288 day relay will conclude on the 23 July when the baton is delivered back to Her Majesty the Queen and the royal message contained within will be read at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Holly Cram – the Game On Scotland Ambassador live on Glow

Holly, a Scottish International Hockey player with over 140 caps, has join the Game On Scotland Team as official ambassador to assist schools in making the most of the exciting opportunities the 2014 Commonwealth Games offer young people.
Holly will tell you about her exciting carreer as a international hockey player and share some of her insights into what makes a successful team player. She will also answer any questions you always wanted to ask a top athlete!

On 3rd December 2013 (4pm – 4.45pm) is the first of the Religious and Moral Education ‘Game On’ Glow Meets. This is a great opportunity for practitioners to link what they’re doing in RME with the incredible sporting and cultural spectacle which is the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This will be a chance to discuss with colleagues across the country how RME is uniquely placed to explore a dizzying variety of issues linked to the Games – cultural, social, moral, philosophical – to name but a few…
So log on at GOS RME Glow Meet and take part in a stimulating and challenging discussion about how RME can lead on exploring the Games in Scotland’s educational establishments. Cultural diversity, moral issues in sport, taking part or winning, beliefs about sport and beliefs and sport –let’s get RME to the heart of the games!

Young Scots and Sri Lankans virtually met at the new building of the British Council in Colombo to engage in discussions about the Commonwealth Games and values.
14 -17 year old pupils at St Joseph’s Academy in Kilmarnock and Stonelaw High in Rutherglen linked up with Holy Trinity College in Kandy, and Colombo schools, Vishaka Vidyalaya and Mahinda Rajapaksa College, to discuss their educational and cultural links with HRH Prince Tunku Imran, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
Education Scotland, with the support from the British Council, made the live exchange possible via the unique education tool Glow. The session supported the British Council’s Commonwealth Class programme that provides resources, online BBC debates and interactive activities for schools to mark the run-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

– hear from the Queen’s Baton designer Will Mitchell (4cDesign) & share their own a baton design ideas
– find out more about the challenges of producing lawn bowls from Grant Heron Taylor bowls
– learn how they can get involved in the Scottish Engineering Special Leaders Award from Angela Greene from Primary Engineers.
In order for your learners to get involved most effectively in this session why not:
– Set your class a baton design challenge
– Prepare a 2 minute pitch of your idea to Will Mitchell from 4cDesign (Dragons’ Den Style) on the day.
