Miss Cohen is feeling super proud!

Well done to all our new cyclists in P7 this week; Rowan, Muntaha, Maria Mackova, Abu Bakr Qasim, Irfan, Lana, Gopal and Nabeeha. Bike for Good, our local social enterprise partners on Victoria Road, have kindly offered us cycling lessons for beginners. Hopefully, we will put our newly learned skills to great use during our P7 Leavers Trip to Millport next week, yay!!

Subhaan’s amazing performance at the Tramway!

On Saturday 9th June, Subhaan performed alongside his intergenerational dance group from the Barrowland Ballet company – ‘Wolf Pack’. They performed a wonderful piece called ‘One and All’. Miss Cohen was super impressed with Subhaan’s commitment and rhythm when on stage, he is an absolute superstar!

Well done Subhaan, we love ya!

Tedx Youth Glasgow Event

Last Thursday, Miss Cohen, Miss Webster, Mr McCormack and some members from P7 went along to the SECC and the Armadillo to the Tedx Youth Glasgow Event. We heard some amazing, truly inspirational speakers discuss current, topical issues – mental health, exercise and diet, dealing with depression and anxiety, having a “disability”, the power and influence of social media and many more.

When we weren’t posing in the selfie mirror with fun props, and boogying to the silent disco tunes, we were enjoying one another’s company and reflecting on the Year of the Young People, 2018 – and our place in celebrating this!

It was a really fun trip! And for those who didn’t get the chance to come along – you can check out the key speakers and read about their stories;

Zafirah’s Iftaari evening…

Hello Miss Cohen,

These are a few pics of what Iftaari looks like in our house.  We have a date, then freshly made fruit chaat every day and a glass of rooh afza (milkshake), which is then followed by a different starter and main dish every day.  Even though we have been hungry all day very little is eaten and we feel really full after a few bites!!  So only small portions are made.

Digital Learning Week at St Albert’s

“This week for Digital learning week, the Primary 7s taught the P2s how to make a pixilated movie. We taught them their roles and what they were doing, so like the cameraperson and the movement co-ordinators. Pixilation is when you take separate pictures, but when you play the video it looks like one big video that you just make without using the recording feature. It involves small shuffling steps. The P2s picked what story they wanted to do and what they wanted to be in the movie. The app that we used was called “Stopmotion”.

We were taught about this app from Mr. Stewart, following a visit from DFieFoe, a film company who we helped create a pixilated movie for the 2018 European Sports Championships.

We wore these awesome, colourful hoodies as part of the video production. We really wanted to keep them as they were SO cosy!

We’ve not yet made the video for our paper cinema, but we are planning and getting the ideas written down. The paper cinema is about creating scenes from a movie, creating your own music and sound effects, and not speaking or using direct text. Here’s a link to their website, that gives you more info on how it works;

https://www.instagram.com/thepapercinema/

We are using key scenes from the movie “Wonder” to inspire us. We have different responsibilities in our teams; sound and lighting technician, illustrators, musicians and visuals and movement co-ordinators.”

We are also going to have a Skype conversation later on Friday morning to show our e-twinning school in Barcelona our fantastic Migration movie. Hopefully they will really enjoy it!

Migration evening performance!

I am SO proud of Primary 7, following their fantastic performance at last night’s Migration showcase. They were absolutely incredible, and a true credit to our school!

Here is the link to the fantastic video that Ally Bhatia, our videographer from Mambo Video Productions, made to document our amazing work and partnerships:

Kelburn Castle trip; we can have fun even if it’s pouring!

Today, the whole school visited Kelburn Castle in Largs. We had such an amazing time exploring and adventuring. We took part in a nature trail – which gave us loads of clues and fun facts about bees.  We climbed and roamed in the Adventure Playground and the Secret Garden. We went to the waterfall and walked in the lush, green forest. A fun day had by all!

I don’t know about you but I am positively knackered! Bath and a cup of tea for me tonight – will need to save my energy for tomorrow’s Barrowland Ballet performance!

Well done for your super behaviour and excellent company, as always!

All of our amazing parents and family members – thank you for helping us today! We hope you had as much fun as us!

Our week of learning…we definitely deserve a long weekend!

In French, we were learning new vocab for positional language; en face de, a cote de…

In Maths, we were learning how to measure angles and draw our own angles, for a partner to then solve and calculate the hidden angle.

During Hammer the Grammar, we were learning about prefixes, dashes, suffixes, hyphens and brackets. We were learning how to implement them into sentences and how to use them to improve our Writing.

With Mrs Kheirabi, we were learning how to write a report about Lions and some of us began typing that into  a Microsoft Publisher document.

We spent Wednesday’s outdoor PE session playing Tennis with Miss Bancewicz.  We practiced bouncing and volleying the ball with a partner. At the end we had to relay the tennis ball, balancing on our racquets.

On Wednesday afternoon, we had visitors from Education Scotland come to see US about our amazing Social Enterprise work! The three different groups were the Finance team, The Maintenance team and the Design team. We  designed and painted our logo onto big boards for our first workshop, we asked plentiful questions about how to service a bike and got handy tips and we also secured some fabulous deals online for bike parts and accessories.

Ally came back to class on Thursday afternoon and filmed and recorded voiceovers from our Migration topic. Ally taught a selection of us how to use the camera equipment and microphone, which involved a lot of stiff arms! He recorded us talking about our experience and our families experiences of Migration.

Mr. Stewart was also in class, and helping us to pixilate videos. We were split into groups, and asked to create pixilated movies. We made these by taking lots of snappy photographs of small actions, and then merging them together. Group 2’s ‘Kidnap’ piece was particularly entertaining! Gurpreet even went home and created her own pixilation movie using the Stop Motion app.

In Science with Miss Brookes, we had to get different objects and shine a torch at it. We had a greyscale and we had to see how grey the shadow appeared, out of 7 shades.

We watched the fantastic Primary 5s perform their Barrowland Ballet piece.

“They had real pride and confidence in their performance!”; Maria M

“Good choice of music – especially the middle song. It sounded like in the jungle”; Iesa

“I enjoyed the pushing the border part as it was quite funny and infectious”; Abu Bakr Qasim

“I liked the part where everyone was jumping and then they formed a star”; Gurpreet

“When Mohammed Sami fell, he showed resilience and got straight back up”; Dany

We’re very much looking  forward to a long holiday weekend. Dany will be playing ‘fortnite’, Zaina is in the Dominican Republic, Subhaan will be going to Karate, Abu Bakr Q is going to see the new Avengers in…LUXURY seats, Maria is learning how to play the piano, Miss Cohen is going to Madrid to see her friends, Mostafa is going to London and going on the London eye, Areeba N is being an activist for children’s rights, Zainab is going to get a new water bottle (breaking news!) and Miss Bancewicz is going on a hillwalk this Sunday.

Dragons Den

Our Social Enterprise ULTRA team, James, Tylor, Zahraa, Aisha, Abu Bakr and Aisha went to a Dragons Den Presentation, which was being held at the City Chambers. The group told the Dragons about St Albert’s whole school approach to creating sustainable SE projects. They were fantastic!

The judges were really impressed by each class teaming up with a local Social Enterprise. Sandra, one of the judges, commented on how well we understand what SE means and “we get it!”.

Here are some pictures of us in action:

Zahraa having a lol after James introduced the presentation by flossing!

Wowza, look at that marble!
