Practical Technologies

Welcome to the Technical Department

Our aim within the department is to create a fun, motivating and stimulating environment where learners gain skills and knowledge that will assist them in their studies whilst also providing them with invaluable life skills.

The Technical department within Saint Roch’s is fortunate enough to have very good facilities conducive to high quality learning and teaching. It has two light and spacious design rooms which are used for Graphic Communication, CfE Technical and research/written work for Practical Woodworking. Both of the design rooms are equipped with a suite of ten networked computers which can be used for internet research, computer modelling, DTP and a variety of other relevant tasks.

The department also has two large and well equipped craft rooms which can be used for wood, metal and plastic work.

Department Rules

To ensure all of our pupils are able to work and learn in a calm and safe learning environment we have a number of very simple and straighforward rules which must be adhered to. In the unfortunate event that individuals are not able to follow our rules they will be sent to the principal teacher for a gentle reminder of the extremely high standards that we expect and demand within Saint Roch’s. Pupil safety is and always will be our number one priority.

Homework

Homework will take a variety of different forms including personal research, report writing, consolidation of class notes, sketching exercises, revision using textbooks and past paper examples. Plus a variety of others suited to the task and individual learning styles of our pupils. Students in the lower school are usually given seven days to complete most homework tasks. Upper school pupils are expected to complete tasks in a shorter time scale.
