Hillhead High School is a six-year comprehensive, non-denominational, co-educational school in the West End of Glasgow. It is situated on Oakfield Avenue close to Glasgow University. The school dates back to 1885.
Everything we do in Hillhead High is informed by our shared vision and our core values. During the 2023-24 session a whole school review of the school vision took place. This involved reflecting and evaluating the journey the school had been on the previous 5 years and looking ahead to what matters most to the pupils, parents, staff and wider community of Hillhead High.
Through pupil, staff and parent consultation the following school vision was created:
We Thrive Together
For all in our school community to achieve this vision it is underpinned by the Hillhead Habits of Learning and Belonging. These are:
- Learning Time
- Learning Quality
- Part of the Team
Our vision We Thrive Together is what we want to achieve now and in the future. This purpose and direction has led to the creation of the Hillhead Habits of Learning and Belonging. These positive habits are what the pupils and staff strive to do every day as we recognise these will lead to success and support all to achieve our vision.
Our aim as a school, therefore, is to identify, support and challenge all young people at all stages of their learning to maximise their individual potentials. To do so we plan for a curriculum that offers appropriate challenge, enjoyment, breadth, progression, depth, coherence and relevance.
At Hillhead High we value and celebrate diversity. We aim to develop young people who achieve highly and are compassionate, resilient, ambitious, and committed to lifelong learning with a respect for themselves and others. During their time at school, we want all young people to feel supported, included and valued. We promote the following five core values:
Resilience Respect Ambition Integrity Kindness
These core values are shared through our weekly assemblies, our Focus of the Fortnight, our end of year Prizegiving Ceremony, our courses and the various opportunities for personal achievement. Adults in the school model these values on a daily basis and we celebrate our values in a number of ways, including issuing praise cards at assemblies and sharing success stories, on our school website and on our X account- @HillheadHs
