S5 into S6 Options

UPDATE 21.02.2026:

Initial introduction to options: S5 Into S6

We have provided S5 pupils with an early introduction to our plans for options choice, well ahead of the move to S6. At assembly on Friday (20.02.26) we explained the structure of S6 curriculum, and gave an introduction to optional college options, which can allow pupils to access a range of courses on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

Each year, we ask for pupils to participate in helping shape our menu of choice. Pupil voice is essential to ensure that the courses and options we offer in school, best match the profile of learners in the particular year group.

To allow pupils to influence the menu of choice we ask them to take part in what we call the ‘Initial Options Scoping Exercise’.

This is not pupils selecting or committing to final options. It is to allow the school to:

  • Plan staffing needs
  • Introduce new courses where required
  • Discontinue courses that are no longer relevant or not in demand

Over the past five years we have worked hard to widen the menu of choice for pupils moving into S6:

Through every pupil participating in the scoping exercise, the best decisions can be made regarding which courses to offer, and in which combinations.

The scoping exercise simply asks pupils to rank subjects in order, through asking them to which subjects they want to do most.

The online form can be accessed here:

S5 Into S6 Scoping Exercise 2026 – Fill in form

This form will be open until Sunday 15.03.26 (midnight).

After this, the school will use the information collected to design a menu of choice. The menu of choice (for next year’s S6) will be published at the point when pupils return from their exam diet in May (for the HHS S6 induction).

Below is an example of the menu from last year. We must stress, that the menu of choice for our current S5 moving to S6 will be redrafted based on the information we get in the scoping exercise. The following is shared as an example only:

We have e-lettered all current S5 pupils. Below is a sample of this letter:
