Senior Phase
Our Senior Phase curriculum has been designed to maximise attainment and achievement for all pupils. During the Senior Phase, pupils will have the opportunity to work toward National Qualifications at the appropriate level for each individual as well as engage in a range of personal development and wider achievement opportunities. Young people are supported in their choices by an effective transition programme and also as a result of our monitoring and tracking of their progress during the BGE. They will also develop their skills for learning, life and work in preparation for their next steps through our extensive links with business partners, work experience opportunities and further and higher education partners.
Almost all young people will embark upon two year courses in six subjects at the start S4, bypassing exams at the end of S4 in order to allow more time for learning and teaching. Plans will be made for those pupils who wish to leave at the end of S4 or before the end of S5 to ensure that they leave school with as many qualifications as possible and that they are fully supported into a positive destination. Personalisation and choice is supported through our partnerships with local schools, colleges and other partners.
We expect young people in the Senior Phase to be ambassadors for our school and to promote our values. All pupils will take part in a wider achievement option in S4 such as Sports Leadership, SFA Sports Coaching or an activity leading to a Saltire Award. A range of leadership opportunities are also available in S5 and S6, including: Duke of Edinburgh, Mark Scott Leadership, School Captains or Prefects and mentoring younger pupils.
In S6 pupils have the opportunity to attend college as part of their studies. This opportunity is available through Foundation Apprenticeship or the Glasgow Senior Phase College Programme. Foundation Apprenticeships take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays all day (Engineering Systems also runs on a Friday). The Glasgow Senior Phase College Programme usually runs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, though some courses have different timings.
