Our choir were recently invited to join Rhona at Broomfield Court Care Home for their annual Remembrance Day service. Many of the residents served in or lived through the war and it was fantastic to hear their memories and to share in their special moment as we sang ‘Que Sera Sera’ and ‘The Black Hills of Dakota’.
This week we had a visitor to our class. His name was Duncan. He plays the clarinet in the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. He taught us about the vibrations that instruments make. We learned about the different parts of the orchestra like woodwind, strings, percussion and brass. We’re going to see Duncan play in a concert next week! We can’t wait to hear the different songs. We’re going to cheer
We are all looking forward to our Christmas Fayre on Friday the 2nd of December. Preparations are well underway but we desperately require donations for our Tombola, Gift Stall, Raffle and Nearly New. We would be really grateful for any donations you can make. Remembrance Day in the United Kingdom honors the heroic efforts, achievements and sacrifices that were made in past wars. The main observance is on the second Sunday in November, but 2 minutes of silence is also made on November 11. Today in school at 11am we will be observing a 2 minute silence.
Here’s what we learned this week….. Dia de los Muertos is a Mexican festival starting on Halloween. It means day of the Dead!!!! We made masks to celebrate it. Mexicans dress up too. They put out things that the people who have died liked when they were alive. The spirits visit. The children come back on the first day, the adults , the next day. Mexicans leave food out for them
We practiced our spelling in lots of different ways this week. We all want to be Super Spellers!
