Ramadan Poetry

Good morning gorgeous girls and boys 💜💜

I know a lot of you are observing Ramadan just now and that this has some similarities to what Christians do during Lent. During Ramadan, Muslims fast during daylight and then feast after sunset. This teaches discipline and makes them feel closer to Allah.

I admire the sacrifice you give during this month and have tried fasting a few times myself but only really last til about 4 o’clock in the day then I need my diluting  juice because I’ve been awake since 7 o’clock.

I’ve been reading poems about Ramadan and think there is something special about them. Have a read at this one which I really like –

Your task is to write your own poem about Ramadan and what Ramadan means to you. If you are observing Ramadan in any way, use how you feel to help you write the poem. If you aren’t observing Ramadan, use what you know about it and what your friends have told you to write your poem.

Your poem doesn’t need to be as long as the poem I’ve posted above. Here are some features of poetry you have learned about that you might use when writing your poem –

Some ideas –

you could write an acrostic poem which is a poem like this –

You could write a haiku which is split into 3 lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables and the third line has 5 syllables again. Like this –

The glorious moon,

glistens on the ocean waves,

what a sight to see.

You could write a rhyming poem in which the word at the end of each line, rhymes with the final word of the line before. For example –

Have fun with this task. I can’t wait to read all your poems and maybe I could even choose my favourite!

Here’s a wee video for you to watch too –

Have a great day everyone, sending you lots of love,

Miss McCue xx

Tuesday – Maths, Modern Studies and Assembly.

Happy Tuesday guys 💜💜

How did you get on with your guided reading yesterday? Did you see Mrs Alexander’s message? It’s always nice to see a friendly face.

Maths – Word problems. Have a go at these maths word problems. You may need to use the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to work out the answers.  Remember, word problems can be quite confusing so I always try to write down each step as I do it so for example this first one, I would do

  • 272-223(children)=49
  • then I would do 49-16(teachers)=33
  • so there are 33 parents at the brass band competition.

Another tip when dealing with word problems is to not focus on the words so much.  Sometimes, most of the words don’t mean much and can just confuse people more because of all the reading.

Modern Studies – Coronavirus.  This task is hard work but lots of fun. You need to fill in the blanks for each column. You will need to use the internet to help you with this so it is a research task as well as a modern studies task. You could draw the table out on paper and send me a picture of it. I will post the completed table at the end of the week as it is really interesting to look at and compare what other countries are doing during this global pandemic.
Here is the Missing answers to the first one to help get you started: Country – Philippines, President – Rodrigo Duterte.

Check out the link below for this week’s assembly. The focus of the week is FAITH and  your challenge this week is to send me pictures of you spending time with your family, this can be eating, cooking, praying or any other time you spend together. Well done to Zaynab who was Mr Stewart’s Star of the Week for her gorgeous pictures of the outdoors. 🌟🌟 https://youtu.be/GCQ9dOEbfn4

I hope you have a fantastic day.  Sending you all lots of love,

Miss McCue xx

Guided Reading – Finding your Identity.

Hey everyone, here is your guided reading task for this week.

We’ve chosen a well-being focus again as this is really important to all of you just now.
Here is the text and the questions. I’ve posted a picture of a figure that I’ve drawn to help you with question 10.

Underneath are links to the P4-7 St Albert’s YouTube channel.  You can use these to listen to me reading the text and the questions.

Good luck and enjoy. 💜💜

Friday Debate – Brave, Not Perfect.

Who remembers how to debate? Who loves debating? Who wants to debate on gender equality? Me, me and me!!

I’ve found this fantastic TEDTalk about teaching girls to take risks and that it’s ok not to be perfect.  The talk is just over 12 minutes long but has some excellent points throughout it. Here’s the link –

The title of the debate is – Should girls be encouraged to take risks?

I have made this short clip of steps  explaining what I want you to do. Have a watch…

Even if you don’t write up a debating argument for this, watch the Ted Talk anyway and take some notes on it. It is very important to all of you. Can you relate to what Reshma is saying? Do you feel like you’re encouraged to take risks but your sister isn’t? Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Here is the link to the BBC Bitesize lesson on debating. We have learned all of this before but watch the clips and read the lesson for a reminder of what a debate is, how to form a debate and how to carry out debating. Knowing how to verbalise (express/say) your opinion is a very useful life skill which you’ll use throughout your education years and for the rest of your life.

Have fun with this task, learn new things, form an opinion and be able to justify it.

When we get some of your thoughts on this, we will move on to the debate. I thought it would be good to video yourself debating for your side and send me them then we can upload them to the blog and have a virtual P6/7 debate. 😊👌

Good luck and enjoy,

Miss McCue xx

Thursday – Maths and Modern Studies.

Morning everyone, how are you all? 💜💜

It’s another glorious day which definitely makes me feel happy. Today, I’m going to call all of your parents and hope to speak to you on the phone too.

How did you get on with the literacy and maths tasks from yesterday? Thanks to those of you who have sent me pictures of your work and what you have been doing, it’s lovely  to see your beautiful faces again. 🥰🥰

Maths – do you remember the rule for rounding? Have a go at this rounding task and let me know if you remembered how to round whole numbers and how to estimate.  Think about what the word estimate means and this might help you. Leave a comment if you need some help or a little reminder.

Modern Studies – It’s a good idea to keep up with what is happening with the Coronavirus by watching the news or reading news online. Remember, everything you read isn’t always true so look out for FAKE NEWS.

Below are some links to clips you can watch and articles you can read about what is currently happening with the Coronavirus and specifically, what Scotland are doing about it and what England are doing about it.  Use these to help you with today’s task.

The Venn Diagram is there to help you but please draw your own with Scotland being on one side, England being on the other and the overlapping bit in the middle is for things that both Scotland and England are doing the same.

Remember, although Scotland is part of the United Kingdom, we have our own government and they are doing some things differently from the Conservative government.

Useful videos for P7 Transition.

Here are 5 useful videos from Holyrood to tell you some things about the school. I know not all of you are going to Holyrood but it is useful to hear things about any secondary school just now so have a watch and then we can chat about it in the comments on this blog.

Wonderful Wednesday ☀️😊

Good morning everyone, I hope you’re all well.

I know a lot of you will be sleeping in later because you are awake later to eat and pray so don’t worry if you don’t see the blog til late afternoon or night time. Please try and leave a comment on the blog when you do see it and let me know how you are and what you’ve been doing. Remember, if you’ve done any school work or any activities you want me to see, you can WhatsApp them to me or you can email me them at

gw17mccuecatherine@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk.

It’s a gorgeous day outside so try and get out for some fresh air today. Here are some things I’ve been up to – I’m still doing my minimum of 10,000 steps a day challenge with my friends via WhatsApp and I’m enjoying it although I’ve had the fewest steps some days so I’ve had to do the squats as a forfeit. 🤪🥺. We’ve also been doing work to our front and back garden to make it nicer to sit in and enjoy the lovely weather. I’ve been taking care of my Auntie Clare too so it has been amazing to spend more time with her. Let me know what you’ve been doing. 🤩🥰

Literacy – send me over your guided reading answers when you do it this week please. I loved all the articles Miss Cohen chose, they certainly made me feel positive. 💜💜 Miss Hewitt has just reminded me of the Some Good News Clips which you will find if you google ‘some good news by John Krasinski’.  These are clips of positive stories from around the world which are sure to make you feel good.  Have a go at these grammar questions. I’m going to do a video and upload it to the St Albert’s P4-7 YouTube channel to remind you what some of this grammar means so head over there if you need some help.

Maths – Have you still been using your Sumdog account for maths? There are lots of challenges on there for you. Try this revision of whole numbers too and see how you get on.

Check out this short clip from BBC Social. I learned lots from it and really enjoyed it. I think you will enjoy it too and be able to relate to what Sumayyah is saying. This Ramadan is so different from what you are used to and that might feel strange but it’s good to know that many Muslims are feeling the same as you. Leave a comment below and tell me what your Ramadan has been like so far. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08cy7st

I hope you all have a great day. 💜💜

Stay safe and have faith that better days are coming,

Miss McCue xx

Guided Reading – Positive News

Good morning P6/7. 💜💜

Here are your guided reading activities for this week. The texts are different articles full of positive news which is happening right now. It is very important to look for positive things that are going on in our world all the time, especially right now as the world seems so uncertain due to Coronavirus.  Hearing about good news usually makes people feel happy so these articles are very welcome during this time. 👏🏼😊

You can visit the St Albert’s P4-7 YouTube channel to hear Miss Cohen reading  all of these articles out. She has also read the questions for you on the YouTube channel too.  Here is the link –

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBjqn03lZYc-6pCjJPIRqwg/videos

You can send me your answers via email – gw17mccuecatherine@glow.ea.glasgow.sch.uk – or you can WhatsApp me your work.

Have a great day everyone. Xx

Nature 🌿🌳

Thank you to Zaynab and Eishah who sent me pictures from their time outdoors last week. Don’t worry if you didn’t manage to send me your picture, I know most of you will have enjoyed nature on some of your walks. 💚🌲

Zaynab couldn’t decide her favourite so she sent me three pictures. Comment below and tell us which one is your favourite. They are all gorgeous, thanks Zaynab. 💚💚

Eishah also sent a beautiful picture and video. Take a look at both and comment which one is your favourite. 💚💚
