Biodiversity and outdoor learning

Today P5 made bird feeders using mugs, sticks, vegetable fat and bird seeds. We are going to hang them up to see if it increases the number of birds we get in the playground. For the children’s “homework” they should find out what biodiversity means.

We also enjoyed playing sports on the Muga and writing about our art projects from yesterday.

The fist week back is going great! So much fun I forgot take pictures 🙈

Mrs Pattie 😊

First day back for new P5s

What a great first day back!

I hope the children enjoyed seeing their friends and settling into their new classroom. It was lovely to see everyone again.

Here are some pictures of our outdoor learning today. Ask the children what their art represents.

Monday 22nd June Learning Tasks

Good morning Primary 4,

Did you notice that on Saturday the sun didn’t go down until after nine o’clock at night? That was because it was a special day called the Summer Solstice which is the day with the longest number of daylight hours in the whole year. Here is a Powerpoint presentation about the solstice and some  reading comprehensions to follow. Choose the one that you can read and answer the questions.

Home Learning Friday 19th June

Hi,

It was lovely to see some of you today at school.  Hopefully you all know who your teacher will be next year and what days you will be in school.

Today is my last blog day with P4 ☹️ I have really enjoyed teaching and learning with you all this year and I hope you have some nice memories to remember P4 in your report.

Task 1:

Have a think back to being in P4. What were the easy parts and what did you find difficult. What kinds of things in class did you love and what annoyed you? What could you have done to make it better? Think about coming back to school, how are you feeling about it?

Write a paragraph, make a video or voice recording about your time in P4 and send it to me. Make sure you answer all of the questions above.

Task 2:

Watch this video and see if you can tie dye something at home using natural dyes. I used turmeric For yellow but you can make purple from red cabbage (add bicarbonate of soda to turn it blue), pink from beetroot and orange from onion skins too.

Task 3:

If you haven’t done so already, please can you text or WhatsApp me some pictures of the work you have been doing at home. It is really important that us teachers have an idea of what you have learned during lockdown so we know what to teach you next year!

the number to contact is 0789 449 2119.

Have a wonderful summer holiday 🌞 and I will see you all again in August.

Mrs Pattie

Home Learning Thursday 18th June

Hi,

Today is reports day and the day you will find out what teacher you will have in August, exciting! It is also the last full week before the end of the summer holidays and tomorrow will be my last blog day for P4 🙁

Today’s tasks are smaller as we wind down for summer and since all us teachers have been working hard in school making everything safe and ready for your return in August.

Task 1:

PE with Joe Wicks

Task 2:

Girl’s books and Boy’s books, watch the video and answer the questions in it. As a challenge write me a paragraph about what you think.

Task 3:

Log onto Sumdog and practice your maths work.

Also, have a look at how the tadpoles are doing.

And…

Miss Brooks and I have been working really hard to make the upper playground look brilliant for you coming back. Here is a sneak peek

I look forward to seeing some of you between 12-1pm today to give you your reports.

Mrs Pattie

Wednesday 17th June learning tasks

Good morning Primary 4,

Here are your learning tasks for today.

At this time of year we would normally be taking part in our annual school Sports Day out on the pitch. While that is not possible this year, you can still have a Sports Day at home.  Here are some resources to help you with this.

Warm-Up and Cool-Down Cards

Here is a reading comprehension about a great sportsman Mo Farah.  Read the fact sheet first and then answer the questions.

Now for some Maths.

The perimeter of a shape is the total distance around the edge of a shape. It can be useful to know  when designing a garden. To find the perimeter of a shape you just add up all the lengths of all its sides.

For example if you have a square, you know it has 4 sides and all the sides are the same length. So if my garden is a square shape and each side is 4 metres long, then the perimeter will be 4 + 4 + 4+ 4=16 metres. If I have a rectangle shaped garden,  then the two long sides will be the same length as each other e.g.  6 metres each and the two short sides will be the same length as each other e.g. 2 metres each. To find the perimeter of my rectangle garden I add up all the lengths so that would be 6 + 6 + 2 + 2 = 16 metres long.

Try this worksheet on working out the perimeters of these shapes. Remember if the sides don’t have a length written beside them, they will be the same as the other sides that look the same.

Tuesday 16th June Learning Tasks

Good morning Primary 4,

Here are some learning tasks for today. Don’t forget to let us know how you are getting on with your work in the comments box.

First of all some Science. You might need to search online to find the answers for these.

This website will help:

http://www.kids-world-travel-guide.com/solar-system.html

t2-or-639-the-solar-system-labelling-activity-sheets

Maybe you could make your own fact file about the planets of the Solar system.

Now for some Maths. To find a fraction of a number all you need to do is use your knowledge of the times tables to find the answer. For example if you are asked to find half of a number you just divide by 2 like this:

E.g. Find half (1/2) of 16.      16 ÷ 2 = 8 because in the two times table 2 x 8 = 16.

To find a quarter (1/4), you divide by 4.

Find  1/4 of 12.     12 ÷ 4 = 3  because in the 4 times table 4 x 3= 12

To find a third (1/3) of a number you divide it by 3

Find 1/3 of 9   9 ÷3 =3 because in the 3 times table 3 x 3 =9

To find a fraction of any number you divide it by the number on the bottom of the fraction.

To find a fifth (1/5) of a number, you divide it by 5.

To find a sixth  (1/6) of a number, you divide it by 6.

To find a seventh (1/7) of a number, you divide it by 7 and so on.

Try this worksheet:

t-n-2544683-finding-simple-fractions-of-numbers-activity-sheet_ver_2

Now for some Literacy, all about apostrophes.

Watch the Power point presentation first and then try the sheets.

JW_apostrophes (1)

the_belonging_apostrophe (1)

its (2)

Here is a game that you can cut out and use to play Snap with someone, all about apostrophes.

contraction_matching_game (1)

Finally here are some ideas for getting creative by  making things from recycled rubbish.

Have a nice day and don’t forget ton get some fresh air.

Monday 15th June Learning tasks

Good morning Primary 4,

Here are some learning tasks for today. First some symmetry. You need to complete the patterns so that they are a mirror image of each other on both sides.

t-n-1281-symmetry-activity-sheet-_ver_3

Now for some Science. You will need to do some online research to find out about the different creatures living at different depths in the sea for this. Cut out and stick the labels in the boxes to show the different layers of the ocean.

t2-t-866-creatures-in-the-layers-of-the-ocean-read-and-draw-activity-sheet-_ver_3

Now some reading.
