Week beginning 09/09/19

This week we have been using our creativity and problem solving skills to plan and build activities in the Sensory Garden.  We used resources that we could find in and around the school to make everything we made sustainable.  We used string to make a fantastic Spider’s Web activity.

Wael, Abdul and Aydin found an unusual and fun way to use old tyres. Thankfully they managed to keep their balance and didn’t fall off!

Every Wednesday P3 will have some dance instruction from a visiting specialist.  Kate is supporting us to create our own dance movement that will later be shown to the whole school.

Check out these dance moves!

P3 are very lucky to have the wonderful Miss Bhatti in class every Thursday.  This week we were learning about how to use adjectives to describe characters in Roald Dahl’s classic story, The Twits.

On my return to the class on Friday I had a wonderful surprise! Through the PATHS activity, Miss Bhatti wrote down compliments that the pupils had given me.  I felt like the luckiest teacher in the world.  Thank you P3!

Week beginning 02/09/19

This week in P3 we have

been learning about a wide variety of subjects.  There have been many memorable moments but I think the highlight was meeting the parents and family members who came to “Meet the Teacher” on Thursday.  As I mentioned at the meeting it‘s vitally important that parents play a positive in role in supporting their child’s education.

In numeracy we have been learning about measurement and number patterns.

Working in small groups, we used our estimation skills to try and find objects that were about 100cm long.

Ishal said “We were measuring inside and outside.  We had to use a metre stick accurately.”

Manha said “We have been learning that cm means centimetres.”

We also had fun on Tuesday during a problem solving solving activity.

Using different resources, each group had to plan then build a Spider’s Web in preparation for our Sensory Garden redevelopment.

As a class, we then had to decide whether string, rope, or bungee cords were best suited.

Here’s what some of the P3 pupils thought about our other activities during the week.

Issa said: “We were learning about graffiti art.  We used bright colours and shapes to write our name.”

Lily said: “Our parents visited and we taught them how to do graffiti.”

Hirrah said: “We have learning how to count in 5s from any number.  Mr Corrigan said we had to challenge ourselves!”

Adil said: “The dancing we did on Wednesday with Kate made me feel happy.”

And finally, a treat from some of the extraordinarily talented girls in P3 during Friday’s Talent Show….

Week beginning 26/08/19

Due to our classroom being refurbished, P3 have spent a lot of this week learning outdoors.  I’m a huge believer in the benefits of working outside so don’t be surprised if you see lots of activities based in and around the beautiful surroundings of St. Albert’s!

During art we used the MUGA as a massive canvas for our chalk drawings.  It was a unique way of using open space to express ourselves.

Our topic for this term is focused on developing our play areas using sustainable materials.  We used our imagination and creativity to work together to come up with interesting ways we can improve the Sensory Garden.  The class came up with phenomenal ideas including a STORY TRAIL, a CIRCUS ARENA, and a GIANT SPIDER’S WEB activity. We had a practice to see how these would look and what problems we may need to overcome.

On Friday we were lucky enough to visit the Tramway Theatre for ‘Tiger Tales’.  It was a valuable opportunity for everyone to experience the skill of the performers from Barrowland Ballet.  A special thanks to Taiba and Kareen, our parent helpers, who made it possible for all the pupils to attend.

From Monday we will back in our brand new and improved classroom. The pupils, and myself, are really excited!
