Our learning this week 6.9.19

This week we have been learning –

  • spotting mistakes in sentences
  • writing sentences of our own remembering the 4 key features
  • telling the time on analogue and digital clocks
  • adding ten to a number
  • totalling coins to pay for items
  • about the connections the brain makes when we make mistakes
  • defending in basketball
  • the β€˜oa’ diagraph
  • about being good winners
  • working out change when paying with different coins
  • the correct formation for the letter j
  • painting with watercolour paints

We thought a bout a recent mistake we had made and how this made us feel (silly, sad, angry, ok, ridiculous, embarrassed), then scrunched it up and threw it away! When we collected our crumpled piece of paper and started colouring all the lines we had made we realised this looked like a brain. This is what happens when we make a mistake – our brain makes lots of connections and helps our brain grow.

We corrected missed capitals, capitals in the wrong place, missing full stops, missing words and separated squashed words with finger spaces to make these sentences correct.

First full week complete

Wow, first full week complete already! We have had a very busy week in Class 2 starting to get into our routine. We have been doing some assessments to see what we remember from last year and what things we still need to learn.

Some of our learning this week has been –

  • TU addition and subtraction sums (using counters, number lines and mental maths strategies)
  • doubles add sums
  • counting in patterns
  • reading and comprehension work with our new reading books
  • revising phonics sounds
  • creating some leaf and bark rubbings
  • discussing our feelings and behaviours
  • some team building games in P.E with P6/7
  • setting targets for the term

Today we had a party in class to celebrate Hector’s birthday which was earlier in the week. We had some delicious party food chosen by the birthday boy and played some games in class – a lovely end to a very busy week.

Miss Hewitt is super proud of how well everyone has settled in and how hard everyone has been working already.

Welcome to Class 2’s blog!

Welcome to our new blog for this school year!

The first week whizzed in with 3 days in class for the children. We did lots of settling in activities and got to know each other better.

We all designed our bear based on different choices. Nobody’s bear was exactly the same because we are all different but everyone had some similarities.

We discussed what we want our class to be like this year and used this to make the class rules together. Some fantastic answers and I’m sure it will be a great year judging by these answers!

Β

This week we will be starting work on our more set timetable which includes P.E on Tuesdays (bring P.E kit please – shorts or joggers and a t-shirt) and the usual trips on Wednesday with Class 2Β  starting with swimming (bring swimming kit please).

Check back soon for more updates on our learning this week πŸ™‚
