Syllables, space and spooky children!

In spelling this week we were learning about syllables, which are the chunks or beats in a word. This is helpful when learning to spell longer words. We counted syllables in lots of different words and practised clapping out the different parts of the word. This is one of the many different activities we can do at home to practise our words, if they are longer. It is not a very helpful activity to learner shorter 3 or 4 letter words.

We continued revising addition and subtraction sums this week in maths and also began work on our new time topic. Firstly we are working on longer periods of time – days, months and seasons. This will also be linking in with our space topic which we will be starting properly next week. We have been enjoying our class novel Flat Stanley in Space at the end of each day.

On Tuesday we completed our technology lesson building our spider webs using twigs, string and glue. There were a variety of strategies used by the different children, creating some really great interesting webs!

We learned the ch sound in phonics this week and thought of LOADS of words! Ch is a very common sound in so many words we know.

With David we were improving our punching and kicking skills in karate.

Of course it was Halloween this week and there was lots of spooky things going on…

Wednesday was the Halloween disco after school

On Thursday we had a class party and a parade to celebrate Halloween

A very busy week again! Happy weekend and see you next week ๐Ÿ™‚
