Hey Class 1! It’s Miss Kinloch here! I am so excited to get to know you (even more than I already do)! I will make sure to keep you in the loop with Mrs. Creevy too – I’m sure you’re all excited to meet her new baby!
This week, I thought we could mix together what you usually do with some new things too! I also thought we could learn a bit about growing and living as I have been doing some gardening and growing at home! It’s funny because I actually really enjoy watching plants grow – and I wouldn’t ever have found this out about myself without having to slow down and stay at home! Have any of you found a new hobby or skill since we have been at home?

I have put a new book about growing on your bug club accounts! Have a go at reading this and seeing what you can find out! It’s called ‘Eco Apes Grow Food’ Remember to email if you need help accessing your Bug Club accounts!

Maths
As we are going to learn a bit about growing this week – I thought we could have some fun measuring ourselves and things around our houses! I had a go at measuring some things this morning. However, I realised I didn’t have a measuring tape – so I used socks instead!! This is called non standard measuring (when you use random things you can find instead of a ruler or measuring tape)! Have a go at some non standard measuring at home!
My bath was 6 socks long!
Leo’s cot was 5 socks long!
This teddy was only 1 sock long!

Dancing!
Have a listen to this song from YouTube! It’s a song from the Lorax which is one of my favourite movies. It’s all about growing and looking after the environment. You can dance about to the song, or sit and listen to the words!

Science!
I have been doing some planting and growing at home! One day last week I was making curry with chillies. I decided to keep the seeds from the chilli and plant them – just to see what would happen! I was so surprised when, after a few days, I noticed this!
The chilli seeds are starting to grow! I am going to keep watering them and leaving them at the window sill to see what happens! I’m hoping I’ll be able to grow chillies and use them in my cooking again! I’ll have to ask Miss Brooks for growing tips!
Why don’t you have a look next time your family are cooking to see if any of the ingredients have seeds. You could have a go at planting them and see what happens! Some things might grow and some might not – but that’s ok because it’s an experiment!
2:30-3pm
At the end of each day, we will send you stories to listen to/read. Some of these will be read by your lovely St. Albert’s teachers, others might be by famous authors. To get ready for the story:
- Get a snack and a drink
- Get somewhere comfy – on cushions/sofa/bed, under a blanket
- Get one of your parents or a brother/sister to listen with you
Today’s story is read by me and it’s a story about a little boy and a tree!
Have a lovely day!
Remember I can be contacted on gw16kinlochlouisa@glow.sch.uk if you need support logging in to Bug Club, Sumdog etc or if you want to send some photos for the next day’s blog!
