S1 – S3 BROAD GENERAL EDUCATION
Pupils from S1 –S3 in Physical Education participate in a range of team and individual activities.
The focus in each activity is to improve pupils’ Cognitive Skills, Physical Competencies, Personal Qualities and Physical Fitness. This is achieved in each activity by focusing on participation, developing performance and improving Health and Wellbeing in every sense (physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual) through a range of team and individual activities. The activities also equip pupils to:
- Apply movement skills and develop competencies and concepts
- Develop the ability to cooperate and compete
- Develop their skills in evaluating and appreciating
S1/2 Course
Each pupil in S1 will have the opportunity to partake in the following sports: Football; Basketball; Badminton; Hockey; Table Tennis; Gymnastics; Fitness, Rugby and Netball.
All pupils will also take part in Softball, Cross Country, Social Dance and Athletics.
These will be offered as compulsory and optional blocks throughout the year and will also include 1 period of Health and wellbeing a week where specific focus will be on the Significant aspects of learning above.
S3 Course – Choice
Pupils in core P.E in S3 will be given more choice within the course to focus more on a games based approach within a more competitive situation. The activities follow on from S1/2 but there is no additional health and wellbeing period.
