Developing the Young Workforce

What is DYW?

Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) is a seven-year programme (2014-2021) that aims to better prepare children and young people aged 3–18 for the world of work.

The headline aim of Developing the Young Workforce is to reduce youth unemployment by 40% by 2021.

An ambition of DYW is that “education and employers work closely together to equip all young people with the skills and knowledge they will need to flourish in work, and to support diversity in the workforce.” To support this Fife Council Education and Children’s Services have engaged a DYW Coordinator in every Fife secondary school.

The DYW Coordinator will help pupils and staff in building career and progression related DYW opportunities across each stage of the curriculum as well as evaluating, managing and reporting on such school activities and data related to DYW to local and national government.

At Waid our DYW Coordinator will endeavour to promote and maintain links with local businesses and employers, liaise with local colleges on all matters relating to DYW and Foundation Apprenticeships and manage all DYW programmes.

Our current DYW Coordinator is Mrs J Mitchell who can be contacted at jackie.mitchell@fife.gov.uk for further information relating to DYW opportunities
