Room 7 P4

This year we have our gym days on Monday and Wednesday. The children can come to school in their gym kits on these days.

In Literacy this term we are reading the book “The Thieves of Ostia” by Caroline Lawrence. This book tells the story of young children about 9 or 10 years old and what their lives are like in Roman times. In this book there are many Roman words which we are learning what they mean. In literacy we are doing our comprehension using this book so it helps us understand it better.                                                         In literacy we are using colourful semantics to help us understand how to make our sentences more interesting as well as being able to start them in different ways.

In Numeracy we have looked at H.T.O addition with regrouping and are now looking at H.T.O. subtraction with exchanges. we have been working on lots of tricky sums and are trying to become more confident.  We are have also spend time on our times tables trying to know them better. We are now trying to learn about division and see how it links to our times tables so they can help us.

Our Topic this term is the Romans. We have learned about the Roman invasion and about Roman soldiers. Their uniform looks very different to uniforms now.

In art we have looed at collage and are looking at design as this will link in with our topic when we look at Roman houses. They   had large frescos in some houses and many mosaics on the floors which are some of the things we would like to create.
