We have really enjoyed settling into our new classroom and discussing all things Primary 7!

Term 1 focuses for P7:

In IDL we are focusing on Renewable Energy.  This topic is giving us lots of discussion around sustainable energy use and linking to the Sustainable Development Goal 7.  We are excited to take part in different experiments and STEM based challenges and workshops.  We will be doing a lot of independent and group research throughout this topic and will focus on presenting our findings to the class.

In Numeracy we are learning about place value and the 4 operations and the many different strategies we can use to answer these types of questions.  We will also be having a big focus around word problems and thinking about what the question is asking us to do by looking at different mathematical vocabulary.  In Maths, we are looking at measure and shape and we are loving the hands on activities which link closely to our class novel – Holes.

Our Literacy focus this term is based around our class novel – Holes by Louis Sachar. The novel has been helping us to focus on different comprehension questions which we use through our literacy grids. We have been focusing on recount writing including writing letters, newspaper reports and diary entries. Holes has helped us in our genre of writing this term.

For our Health and Wellbeing focus we have been looking at different  emotions. What makes us feel different emotions and strategies we can use to manage these emotions when things become too much. We have also been focusing on ways we can become more positive and have been continuing to develop a growth mindset. We have been doing this by looking at ways we can change our thinking through feedback, embracing challenges and learning and improving.

Our gym days are Wednesday and Friday.
