Block Two (January-March)
In Primary 6, we have a jam packed term ahead of us. We are continuing to demonstrate the school values (safe, ready and respectful) and be good role models for the younger pupils. Here’s what we have planned:
Topic
Our topic this term is The Scottish Wars of Independence. We didn’t know a lot about the topic to begin with so we have lots of learning to do. We will do this through ICT, art, social studies, health and wellbeing, literacy and maths.
Maths and Numeracy
This block, we are planning to cover the following topics:
- Division
- Money
- Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
- Measurement
Literacy
We will be doing group reading in class each week. These books will come home on a Friday and are due back in on a Wednesday. We will complete jobs in our groups and read aloud each week.
We will be continuing to work on the literature circle jobs we learned last year. This term we will be recapping the jobs and using our class novel to practise them.
We will enjoy weekly writing lessons with a range of focuses.
In listening and talking, we will be focusing on reciting a Scots poem and group presentations linked to topic.
Health and Wellbeing
In Health and Wellbeing, we will continue to use the national RSHP resource as well as a bit of a focus on Growth Mindset.
In P.E., we will be learning netball as well as having a tennis coach in for a couple of tennis tasters. Our P.E. day is usually a Wednesday and children will be expected to come in appropriate P.E. kit on that day.
Homework
Reading homework will continue to go out on a Friday and is due back in on a Wednesday. Please ensure books come to and from school every day to allow us to read in class too.
