P1/2 and Mr Cameron

Block Three (April – July 2026)

Primary 1/2 is situated in Room 2 and currently has 25 children. Their class teacher is Mr Cameron, supported by Mrs Herd, Miss Burns, and Miss Bryson. On Tuesday afternoons, Mrs Wright will teach PE. Primary 1/2 are a class committed to following our school values: Safe, Ready, and Respectful.

Numeracy/Maths

  • Primary 1: Continuing to work on number formation, recognition, ordering, and sequencing numbers to 20 and beyond, as well as continuing to learn number words and ordinal numbers.
  • Primary 2: Continuing to work on the structure of number, ordering, and sequencing within 100 and beyond, as well as working on estimation, rounding, ordinal numbers, and multiplication/fractions.
  • Both classes will be working on time and money.

Literacy

  • Primary 1: Phase 3 of the Jolly Phonics programme, introduction to new tricky words and spelling rules, learning letter names, and developing their writing from guided to independent. Children will continue to focus on blending and reading.
  • Primary 2: Continuing spelling and grammar through the Jolly Grammar programme, and focusing on our Illustrator and Word Wizard literature circles.

Topic

This block, our class topic is Under the Sea.

RSHP

As part of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence Health and Wellbeing strand, children in P1/2 will also be learning about Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood. This block, we will cover the following topics:

  • My Body Belongs to Me
  • Personal Space and Privacy
  • Looking After Plants and Animals
  • When I Feel Sad or Upset

We will be using a national resource that you can access at https://rshp.scot.

Gym Days

  • Our main gym day is Tuesday, and children should come dressed in their gym kit for the whole day.

Homework

Homework is sent home every Friday evening and returned the following Wednesday morning. Homework includes a reading book, ORT common/key words, and tricky word flashcards.
