Block Two (January – April 2026)
Hi everyone and welcome again to the P5b school page. We learned so much in the last block and are ready to work very hard in Block 2.
Here is what we have planned for Block 2:
- Class Charter:
Our school values are SAFE, READY RESPECTFUL so our class charter is linked to them. We have been focusing on our actions each week and many of us have already been awarded our Hot Chocolatier of the week. We continue to work especially on “using kind words and actions”, “listen and focus” and using “one voice”.
- Topic:
Our topic this block is “The Romans”. We will be learning about when and where the Romans lived and who they were. We will be researching what the Romans did for us and why they came to Scotland.
- Numeracy & Maths:
- This block we are learning:
- Fractions
- Decimals
- Percentage
- Money
- Mode, Median, Mean, Range
- Literacy:
Our class novel this Block is “Romans on the Rampage” by Jeremy Strong. It is a fun style book about the comical lives of some Romans.
We will also have group readers which we will read and chat about in class and take home each week. Children also have individual reading books they have chosen to read for enjoyment.
In writing we will be creating:
- Reports
- Newspaper front pages
- Posters
- Fact files
- Imaginative writing pieces
In talking and listening we are focusing on listening skills, presentation skills, taking part in debates and reciting Scottish poems.
- HWB: RSHP
This block we will be covering the following topics:
- Consent
- Protecting Me / Abuse and Relationships
- PE:
Tuesday: indoor PE (hockey, badminton, dance, team games)
Thursday: outdoor PE (games, the mile, trim trail, fitness)
- Homework:
Our homework will consist of spelling and reading.
The children will write the task into the homework jotter each week.
This will be sent out on a Friday and should be returned on a Wednesday.
- P5b Events: More information to come
- Easter Assembly: The P5s will be involved in presenting the Easter Assembly. The assembly is scheduled for Thursday 2nd April but more information will follow.
