Hi everyone and welcome to the P5/6 school page. We are so pleased to be back and are all looking forward to a fantastic year in P5/6.

Here is what we have planned for Block 1:

Class Charter

Our school values are SAFE, READY RESPECTFUL so our class charter is linked to them. We discussed and chose actions for each value and each week we will focus on a different one. When we achieve the weekly action, we are awarded a place on our recognition board and can then be considered for Hot Chocolate Friday.

Topic

Our topic this block is “Islands”. We are working in groups to study a different island which we have chosen. We are learning all about our islands and how they compare to Scotland. We have our own panel on the wall where we display the work we have completed on our island ourselves. We are learning how to space our work and present it well.

Numeracy & Maths

This block we are learning:

• Place value to millions
• Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division with carrying and exchange
• 2d and 3d shape
• Angles
• Symmetry
• Coordinates and compass points
• Time

Literacy

Our class novel this Block is “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson. It is about islands, treasure, pirates and adventure.

We will also have group readers which we will take home each week to read.

In writing we will be creating:

• imaginative stories
• posters
• fact files
• sets of instructions
• a variety of poems

In talking and listening we are focusing on listening skills, presentation skills, and taking part in debates.

HWB: RSHP

This block we will be covering the following topics:

• Friends and Friendship
• My Body
• A Fair and Equal Life for Boys and Girls
• Emotional Wellbeing and Body Image
• PE:

Tuesday: indoor PE (fitness, team games, basketball, netball, gymnastics)

Thursday: outdoor PE (games, the mile, trim trail, fitness)

Homework

Our homework will consist of spelling and reading.

The children will write the task into the homework jotter each week.

This will be sent out on a Friday and should be returned on a Wednesday.

• Sharing Assembly: Our sharing assembly will take place on Friday 13^th September at 9.30am. We would love to see you all there and hear what we have all been learning so far.
