Block One (August – December 2025)
Hello and welcome to P4.
In the first few weeks we will be brushing the cobwebs away from our learning brains as we get used to being back in school and the routines of a new class and teacher.
This term we will be very busy with our learning and I have outlined some of it below.
Our gym day will be a Wednesday this year and children should come to school in their gym clothes.
Our very first topic will be looking at theme parks, the purpose of them, the engineering behind how rides work and a look at advertising. All of this, and more, will be through an interdisciplinary lens and will incorporate all areas of the curriculum with a focus on STEM. Part of this theme will be focussed around our class novel this term which is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
We will start off this term in Maths by consolidating our understanding of place value and developing our knowledge of the commutative laws of addition and multiplication. We will also be looking at fact families. This is in preparation for “using what we know.” Ask your child what we mean by this in a few weeks time!
Some of you will be familiar with this concept after having taught your older children last year.
Reading books will be coming home on a Friday and should be returned on a Monday ready to undertake reading groups. Please spend some time going over your child’s reading with them and ensure the books are returned to school on time.
Assemblies will be held on a Friday morning, details of sharing assemblies will be sent out in the coming months.
Welcome meetings, which will be taking place in September, will be communicated to you soon with time slots given nearer the time.
I have an open-door policy and I am usually available after school most days so you can catch me for a chat then. If you would like a longer chat please just check with the office who will be able to arrange this for you. As you will appreciate, mornings are not the best time to chat as we are trying to keep the children in a routine and we don’t want to waste valuable learning time by holding the children up at the start of the day. Equally you can contact me through seesaw but a reminder that if your child will not be in school due to ill health please also ensure you contact the office to let them know so they can update the registers as appropriate.
Much of our literacy learning will be undertaken through our topic work and we will have a focus on spelling and grammar.
I am very excited to be teaching Primary 4 this year and look forward to working alongside you and welcoming you all into our classroom very soon.
