Block One (August – December 2025)
Primary 1/2 is situated in Room 2 and currently has 24 children. Their class teacher is Mr Cameron, supported by both Mrs Herd and Miss Burns. On a Wednesday morning, Mrs Ritchie will teach Music. Primary 1/2 are a class committed to following our school values – Safe, Ready and Respectful!
Block 1 – Numeracy/Maths
- Primary 1 will focus on recognising and forming numbers to 10 and beyond.
- Primary 2 will focus on place value and counting, recognising and forming numbers to 100, and using these in calculations such as addition and subtraction.
- 2D and 3D shapes and their properties
- Pattern and symmetry
- Money
Block 1 – Literacy
- Primary 1 will focus on recognising and forming sounds using the Jolly Phonics programme. In Term 2, we will begin blending and segmenting words to support reading and writing.
- Primary 2 will continue working on spelling and grammar through the Jolly Grammar programme. We will also be learning to predict and summarise.
Block 1 – Topic
This block, our class topic is ‘Grand Designs – Bridges and Buildings’. However, we are beginning the term with a mini-topic focusing on Health and Wellbeing: feelings and emotions.
Block 1 – RSHP
As part of the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence’s Health and Wellbeing strand, children in P1/2 will also be learning about Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood. This block, we will cover the following topics:
- People who help look after me
- Our families
- Friends and Friendships: playing together and being kind
We will be using a national resource that you can access at https://rshp.scot.
Gym Days:
- Our main gym day is Tuesday, and children should come dressed in their gym kit for the whole day.
- For Term 1 only, our gym day will be Monday, as Erin from Active Schools will be delivering sessions on physical literacy.
Homework:
- Primary 1: Homework will be sent home daily and returned the following day.
- Primary 2: Homework will be sent home on Friday and returned by Wednesday.
