Block Three (April – June)
Hello and welcome to P2/3 with Mrs Goodlad!
Literacy
This block we will be covering:
- Recognising and spelling 100 high frequency common words.
- Alternative vowel sounds.
- Using paragraphs.
- Alphabetical order and introducing dictionaries.
- Comprehension – answering literal questions and basic inferential questions. We will learn how to locate key words in the text and using these to answer questions. Comprehension will be from a mixture of our group reading books, class novel and textbook passages.
- We will also be developing our literacy circle skills with a focus on the questioner role this block.
- Finding and using information – locating key words in text, reading for information, features of non-fiction texts and fact or opinion.
Numeracy
This Block in Numeracy we are learning:
- Daily focus on number (through whole school Big Maths programme) – counting in 10s, hundreds, identifying 2,3,4 digit numbers, revision of place value, doubling and skip counting.
- Addition and Subtraction
- Multiplication/Skip counting
- Chance and Probability
- Fractions
- Angle
We continue to practise counting in 2s,3s, 5s and 10s daily through mental maths games and songs.
Homework
Homework will go out every Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday. The homework will consist of a reading book and a reading record for you to sign each week. Pupils who are reading books from our Oxford Reading Tree scheme (ORT) will also be provided with a word wall of common words for them to practise. Please can you ensure that your child brings their homework folder to school every day as we will need access to their reading book during class time to practise.

Topic
Our topic this term will be The 2024 Olympics. Here are some of the things we are going to cover:
- The history of the Olympic games.
- Researching the Sports that will feature in the 2024 games.
- Recognising famous athletes from Team GB and learning about their achievements.
- Research an athlete from Team GB and create a Pic Collage using their notes. Pupils will then share this with class and perform a talk about their chosen athlete.
- Participating in different athletic sports.
- Healthy eating and comparing an athlete’s diet to ours.
- Learning about the importance of fitness and the level of training athletes must maintain to compete.
- Learning about diversity and the Paralympic games.
Health and Wellbeing
