Kirkcaldy High School

Respect for Self, Others, and Learning

Rector’s Log 15/03/24

Welcome to this weeks Rector’s log. I hope you and your family are doing well.

The week that’s been…

It’s been a relatively quiet week in our school calendar, with the focus on learning for all year groups in class. Our young people in S4-6 continue to complete the various aspects of their SQA qualifications, completing courses and starting their revision programmes for the examinations ahead. Young people in S1-3 continue to undertake a variety of learning and activities also.

Although it’s been a quieter week with respect to organised events, we did end last week with Friends of Kirkcaldy High School (FoKHS) annual ceilidh. A great night was had with lots of dancing and some star performances, including from our very own Dr Murray! As ever, a huge thanks to FoKHS for their continued support to our school and community.

As ever, please check out our blog to keep up to date with all the latest goings on.

A little update from MS Black and Supported Learning:

“This week in Supported Learning we have had a lot of trying new things; some learners have joined learning in the community or the swimming group for the first time and some have joined a new local club.  Even when we have maybe felt a little anxious it is good to push ourselves to try new things and to think about how we promote our independence and build our skills.  We have Raith Rovers football sessions starting next week which will see some of our S1s try something new and for others a return to training.  Very proud of everyone that tried something new this week.

One of our S2 learners suggested that if we raised enough money Mr Broadway should dye his beard red for Comic Relief.  Donations are still coming in and Mr Broadway did indeed dye his beard red!  We look forward to sharing how much has been raised in due course and we love that our young folk are thinking of others.”

Please read the letter confirming our school day timings for next session, an updated ‘Transforming our curriculum…Creating our future…Improving life chances’ document, and FAQs document about the changes.

The week ahead…

Next week, we will continue learning across all year groups, hope to finalise course choices for young people in S2, S4 and S5 and preparations for the SQA examinations for our seniors.

Teachers will begin putting together the final S4-6 reports, including estimate grades and SQA presentation levels. This information will be available to parents / carers in April following the completion of these.

Best wishes,

Chris McKay
