For many years, KHS has been committed to reducing the poverty related attainment gap in education. We have employed a positive discrimination model to support learners from disadvantaged backgrounds eg breakfast club, free soup at lunchtime, travel grants for school trips or payments for materials in craft or cookery. This has been possible due to sponsorship, particularly from the “Friends of Kirkcaldy High School”.
Since 2017, the Scottish Government has provided a substantial level of financial support for schools with a high percentage of pupils qualifying for free meals. The attached plan shows how we use the “Pupil Equity Fund” to “close the gap”.
