“Play is the work of the child.” Maria Montessori
At Carnegie we recognise play as a vital component for child development and we endeavour to offer quality play experiences to support and challenge learning and progression.
Our infant department offers a play based curriculum where we recognise that play isn’t just physical. It can involve cognitive, imaginative, creative, emotional and social aspects. Our children are given opportunities throughout the day to engage in play where they are developing skills and progressing in all areas of the curriculum.
“Play is a very misused adult word. To a child it is a way of life. To an adult it often means unimportant recreational things we do when we are not working” Jean-Jaques Rousseau
As we progress throughout the school play continues to play an important role in learning for all children but this looks different. We have an enquiry or project based learning approach as children progress through the middle and upper stages.
