On Friday 3rd February Keith Charters visited our school! He spoke to P4 and P5 first and then p6 and P7. He spoke to us about being a writer and told us how we can make our writing really exciting! It was great to meet Keith as we had been reading his Lee novels and he is really funny just like his books. Cameron and Amy won a copy of his books and we all were given signed postcards which was cool!
For homework, Primary 4 designed and constructed an eco junk model kart for Mario Kart. Here are some examples:
Primary 4 created new characters for Mario kart. We then developed the basic description after studying how we could use a metaphor or simile to enhance our writing.
Primary 4 used mario kart to investigate time and averages. A group timed another group racing a 3 lap race and then calculated the average lap time. This did prove tricky for some, as we had to convert minutes and seconds to seconds first. We recorded the information, and it looked a bit like this:
Primary 4 have created our own Mario Kart racing tracks on A3 paper. We then added coordinates to these sheets and used them to develop our understanding of grid references. We also completed a brief outline description about our tracks.
Congratulations to primary 4 who were the winning class of Switch Off Fortnight. Every time we visited their class they had the smartboard switched off when not in use, the computer screens were off and their lights were off if they did not need them! Well done to all classes for your hard work!

We found out lots of interesting information about formula 1 for our homework.
We are beginning to investigate the use of figurative and rich language for descriptions. We started with a simple presentation about our favourite character.

Our budding racing drivers thought they’d like to have a look at a Grand Prix, to perhaps gain some useful tips. So, the class planned a wee jolly to Abu Dhabi to watch the race, this weekend. Pupils were tasked with pricing flights and a hotel for 2 or 3 nights. They had to ensure they chose flights that allowed them to see the Grand Prix on the Sunday. No budget was given for this task, as the last minute nature of the task meant that well priced flights were not available. It also proved tricky to find a hotel in Abu Dhabi, obviously this is a busy weekend over there!
