Literacy based play

Gach seachdain/cola-deug, bidh sinn a taghadh sgeulachd mar chlas.

Bidh sinn ga leughadh neo ag èisteachd ris gach latha airson ar cuideachadh a bhith ag ionnsachadh briathrachas ùr. Tha sinn an uair sin a faighinn cothromon a bhith a cleachdadh na facail ùr sin ann an diofar dòighean. Chì sibh gu h-ìosal gu bheil sinn air tòiseachadh a’ leughadh ‘A’ chearc Bheag Ruadh.’ Gheibh sibh aon dè na dreuchdan dhen a’ sgeulachd seo air http://sgeulachdan.scot/ ma tha sibh airson èisteachd ris aig an taigh.

Every week or fortnight we choose a story to focus on as a class.

We read/listen to the story each day, to help improve our Gaelic Vocabulary. We then have follow-up activities based on the story, you will see below that we are currently reading ‘The little Red Hen’ and so the activity was to explore different materials used in the story. You can listen to a version of the story on http://sgeulachdan.scot/

In this activity they are using their imaginations, fine motor skills, problem solving, sharing, communicating, weighing ingredients and many more skills through play. The older classes will usually have a written task to complete based on the story but also enjoy opportunities to use the materials for imaginative play.

You would also have seen at our sharing assembly that we sometimes learn to re-tell the story using Makaton sign language which the children engage very well with.

Here are some of the activities from our previous story, Jack and the beanstalk.

Horshader Week 3

An t-seachdain sa aig Horshader, chunnaic sinn cho àrd ‘s a bha na flùirichean grèine againn air fàs bho chuir sinn iad ro na làithean-saora.

Chuir sinn pònair-ruith agus bha sinne den bheachd gu robh iad coltach ri pònairean seunta a bh’aig Seoc anns a’ sgeulachd againn.

Chaidh sinn an uair sin a-mach agus chuir sinn uinnean  agus dh’uisgich sinn iad.

_________________________________________________________________________

This week at Horshader, we were amazed at how tall our sunflowers had grown since we planted them before the holidays.

We then planted some runner beans and some of us thought they looked extremely like Jack and the Beanstalk beans!

We then went outside and planted some onions and finished off by watering them.

Horshader Week 2

Bha toiseachd tòiseachaidh miorbhailleach againn airson a’ chiad latha air ais leis gun d’fhuair sin a mhadainn a chaitheamh a-muigh a’ cuir pònairean, leatas, flùirichean agus feur!

What a start to the first day back as we got to spend it outside in the fresh air, planting pees, lettuce, flowers & even grass!

Bha a h-uile duine math air a bhith ag èisteachd ri David agus a leanntainn na stiùridhean aige.

The children were listening intently to David as he spoke to them and were very good at taking instructions from him.

Bidh sinn a’ tilleadh ann an cola-deug a dh’fhaicinn a bheil am buntàta a chuir sinn ro na làithean-saora air nochdadh fhathast.

We’ ll be returning in a fortnight to check if the potatoes we planted before the holidays have made an appearance yet!

Let us know what delicious things you’d like to see us plant next time!

Horshader

Chaidh sinn air ais gu Horshader an t-seachdain sa agus chuir sinn buntàta nas tràithe am bliadhna agus sìol flùr-grèine. Tha sinn an dùil flùirichean agus tomato-an a chuir anns na seachdainean ri thighinn.

Bha cuid againn air bhioran a’ lorg boiteagan ge-ta agus bha tòrr spòrs againn gan lorg anns a pholl!

Bidh sinn a’ tilleadh air ais gu Horshader a chiad latha as-dèidh na saor-làithean. Cuimhnich air ur bòtannan!

We returned to Horshader this week and planted our potatoes earlier this year, we also planted some sunflower seeds and hope to help create a wildflower area in our next few trips.

Some of us were also enjoying finding worms in the mud!

We will be returning to Horshader the first day after the holidays so please remember your wellies!
